iBook 500, 640mb, 20gig, w/ combo drive.

Combo drive doesnt like to show CDs on my desktop anymore. It spins up a little bit, but then nothing.

Can't boot off it anymore either.

Please tell me anything other than that it is dead. There is already enough stuff broken on this thing .

Same thing happened with my combo on 600MHz. In fact it stopped even trying to spin them up. It was still under warranty - this was only a few weeks ago - so it wasn't too big a worry. I have a head-cleaning CD but had never tried to use it until the problem occurred, when it was useless of course. Anyway, the replacement drive is a bit different, but the interesting thing is that it burns at 8x rather than the original 4, so I'm not complaining . Although it was hard being without it for 3 weeks and having to use my PC desktop more often!
