Serial number from the command line

I'm pretty sure it isn't possible to show the serial number of a computer from the command line in Jaguar. It used to be possible with the applesystemprofiler command in 10.1, but alas, that command is gone in Jaguar. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Apple Menu/About This Mac. Click twice on the version number.

Not in my Jaguar, it isn't.
Mind you, you have to run 'AppleSystemProfiler' or '/usr/sbin/applesystemprofiler' and not just 'applesystemprofiler', but it is there.

Odd, my G3 tower doesn't support that but my G4 laptop does. The G3 just shows Serial Number Not Available.

In order to get the serial number, you have to have a Mac that uses the new architecture. That means iBook/B&W G3 or newer.
That applies to the non-CLI tools as well I believe.
