There is a new field in itunes when you get info on a song labeled grouping.

Anybody have any idea what this is supposed to be used for.. is it just a field like genre that can be used to sort files or does it have a specific function.

I think I'm going to use it for making smart playlists with Soundtracks and Covers. Before I had to change the genre to cover or soundtrack or add a comment now I can use the grouping label pretty cool...

According to the German help viewer file (doesn't seem to show up in the English one), "Gruppierung" is used to group certain tracks when importing, so that they will be imported WITHOUT THE SPLIT-SECOND SILENCE INSERTED BETWEEN ALL SONGS!!!!

If this is the case, but the tracks still show up as separate tracks, HOOORAY!

Long time waiting. Slightly inelegant solution, but hey.

No thats not what the new grouping tag is for, it's the joining tracks feature thats been around since iTunes 3..

Here's an example of a Classical album.

The first tracks 1-4 are "Symphony 40", tracks 5-8 are "Symphony 41". You could use the Grouping field for the symphony, and you wouldn't need to have it in the track titles.

Grouping is not in CDDB, so you have to enter it manually.

My German Help Viewer doesn't show that info. What search word did you use?

Aha! That makes sense to me.

Now I would have to change all classical tracks in my DB manually though. :-(

"Gruppierung". First and only document:
Hinzufgen von Musiktiteln von CDs zu Ihrer Bibliothek

[...]
1

Whlen Sie dann "Erweitert" > "Titel-Gruppierung aufheben".
Seems as though this is old, though, so...

This does not apply to the new info field. I second Busemann's opinion (see his post).

Agreed.

It was news to me, though.

How can I do this grouping effect with my own albums in iTunes?
