According to the lawsuit, Hall was counseled by his platoon sergeant after being informed that his promotion was blocked. He says the sergeant explained that Hall would be "unable to put aside his personal convictions and pray with his troops" and would have trouble bonding with them if promoted to a leadership position.
How can you be turned down for a promotion because you can't lead a prayer group? Whose God are they praying to anyway? And he can't bond with his troops? So belief in a God is required to bond with someone???

Sounds like they blocked him because he habitually complains. If you bitch and rock the boat too much they tend to cycle you out.

I'd like to see his file, bet it's very colorful.

Thats what I was thinking since he seems to be quick to file a lawsuit, but it was the statement I quoted above that bothered me about the whole deal. I've heard similar things before about non-Christians being passed up for promotions.

He may have fabricated that part, who knows? What did the sergeant say about the discussion?

Awfully much conjecture coming from someone without knowledge about the case.

A classic example of one presupposition assuming the other is fallacious based on the same degree of information. The NNs... can't live with 'em, can't disagree without 'em.

The military is built around conformity. God and faith are a strong part of military service. I'm sure atheists are treated as pariah and commonly passed by for promotion.

Could someone please show some evidence that G-d and faith are a strong part of military service?

That doesn't stop the usual suspects from coming to their own conclusions around here.

Of all the military people I've known, only one has evidently given more of a crap about God or faith than your average Joe.

In other military news, "Two bombings killed at least 54 people and wounded 123 more in a bustling shopping district in the heart of Baghdad on Thursday evening, Iraqi authorities said." (link) Not that anyone cares.

On topic, "According to the lawsuit" is the key phrase. Just like Buckaroo's posts have to be prepended with "according to some spam email I got." Generally, just because a lawyer says so, or just because you heard something on the internet, doesn't make it accurate. This is pretty questionable. (That said, if you follow the case, let us know the outcome.)

You may be sure but that doesn't make your contention true. Care to share the basis for you're completely incorrect assumption?

The Battle Hymn of the Republic is considered evidence of current military attitudes?
