Hi Everyone,

I'm attempting my very first CD Burn. I'm just trying to back up some files. When I insert the CD, I don't hear it spool up like I do the Install CD's. Also, there is no disk Icon on the desktop page. It's as if the computer doesn't know there's a CD in it.

The CD says "Sony Corporation DVD-R 16x" with a plain white on top.

One more thing:

The only way to eject the disk is to hold the click bar down while doing a restart. The F12 button won't eject the disk.

Open Terminal and type in:

drutril tray eject.

Try another CD.

"drutil tray eject" might work better, since we don't live on Trill.

Thanks for the replies. I think the first guy may have deleted his post.

Both commands "drutril tray eject" and "drutil tray eject" do not work for ejecting the disk.

What do you have set in your CDs and DVDs preferences in System Preferences? You probably have it set to Ignore for blank disks. Change it to "Ask what to do" or "Open Finder" if you want to drag and drop files onto the disk to burn.

Hi ibook_steve

I just now checked in System Preferences and it is indeed set at "Ask what to do" for both blank CD's and DVD's. Shall I go by some new blank CD's? What are the correct kind to buy?

"drutil tray eject" should work. It does on my PowerMac G5 (10.5.8), popping out the disk tray. And the drutil command is present under 10.4 Tiger also. What OS version are you running? And what error message did it give when you tried the command?

Hi reader50

I'm running 10.3.9 and I didn't get an error message when I typed "drutil tray eject" + Enter into Terminal.

I just now inserted a regular DVD with media on it and that works fine. It's looking more and more like the DVD-R that I have is nothing more than a useless piece of plastic.
