Naw, I'll just make up account after account like Rob does.

If a certain admin wants to be a jerk, so can I.

Hell, I might even start posting in the PL again.

You and ke^in just couldn't avoid it ha? Saying "the n word" just wouldn't suffice? Well, seeing as this is a public forum, there is a possibility of someone african american reading this that might be offended. Its just as bad as you saying it to an african american in public.

Internet Freedom of speech / racism is the ultimate liberator. I'm sure you guys aren't racist, and that you also think that "Its ok because I was using it to illustrate a point." But I wish you had the same balls to say it in person.

Hope you didn't take offense to any of that.

Wait just one cotton pick'n minute. Redneck and Whitedevil are ok with you? But when I mention a legitimate slang word used in ebonics, then you get all riled up right?

Would you say your post to me in person? After all, I'm a very large person who does like pickup trucks and calvin stickers who on occassion drinks budweiser beer...

What? We were using it in comparison. Not in hateful way. I am sure if any African American read that, they would also see that.

I'm still shocked and awed at the double-standard here.

Catholic Priests are open game, but whoa, don't even think of using the "ebonics" to be taught in schools...

I have no qualms with saying my post to you in person. You know good and well you wouldn't say that to a black person, not because you don't sincerely have ill-feelings toward them in the inside, but because its simply rude and insensitive. It would more than likely end in fighting. Same as if I called you a (insert racial explicitive).. Understand?

I can't vouch for Catholic Priests, because I'm not one and i'm sure none of you would either.

I don't use either term you've listed above, nor do I harbor any ill-will or malice towards white people.

Fight your own battles, and if you aren't willing to help or contribute to a solution, move on and don't try to excuse your behavior.

You would have a problem if you said that to me in person. I'm telling you so. You would have a heated debate on your hands.

I wouldn't have a problem discussing the "niggah" slang world with black people, not if they plan on having it taught in schools.

I have a family member who is a Catholic Priest, and I AM OFFENDED at the picture posted at the top of this thread.

I don't need an excuse for anything. I don't hold any malice against black people. There is an obvious double-standard in these forums.

I didn't call anyone "niggah". That's the point, and I never would call anyone this word. It was used entirely for educational purposes... and as far as some educational systems are concerned, it's going to be the norm, so get used to that.

And crazy enough, some contractors are saying that duct tape should be use everywhere but on ducts. For heating or cooling ducts, you should use metal tape.

No double standard. White people refer to each other one way, black people refer to themselves another. But those lines aren't crossed.

Thats a simple, single standard.

And there's no chip here, I have no aspirations to be an internet race cop. I've had much worse happen, just hoping we can keep macnn a place where everyone can commune and enjoy.

How does one know what color who is on an internet forum?

Besides, I was told if it offended someone, NOT to do it. I was told by a certain admin in here.

No one knows what color anyone is until someone says something that offends someone else.

There may be a snopes reference on it, but duct tape is just that -- tape used to tape HVAC ducts. I first remember using it about 1972 or so, and it was duct tape (or gaffer's tape) back then.

The reference to "metal tape" that someone made may be valid these days, with newer technology, but I've crawled around lots of ducts with good old duct tape on them.

As for git-r-done, I've heard that phrase all of my life. It has no sexual connotation AFAIK.

Sexual connotation with the phrase "git-r-done" ?

I've heard that phrase for years, as it relates to getting a job done...

Yes, yes it would.

You wouldn't call someone a redneck to their face. That should tell you something right there.

(Well I guess you could, if you didn't have a any intentions on keeping your teeth)

But we have seen what certain admins think about using the that word in here. But you can't say anything to them about it or they will ban you.

As a matter of fact, I just got banned again for saying I think calling someone a redneck is a bad thing.

I guess he is still taking it personally.

I assumed that "R" stood for "her," making it "get her done." It's not hard to get a sexual connotation from that.

That't the problem. We often think of jobs as "Shes" not "HEs"...

Boats are labeled as women often, cars, etc. It's a label we apply and the slang phrase picks up on that inuendo, but it's not sexual.

I think it actually means, pull up your pants and get it done, as in the job.

Talk about a chip. I was merely mentioning that calling someone "white trash" was a great way to initiate an altercation.

I generally lump "redneck," "white trash," "honkey" and "cracker" together with those racial slurs that folks have already mentioned in this thread. They are all offensive, and indicate either the user's prejudice or ignorance, or both.

Was Ed Gein a redneck, or a cracker?

Look, there's no friendly way to approach someone and call them a redneck, unless it's someone you're already friends with. You'd get your ass kicked for being a dick, not so much for using the word itself.

And that goes back to what I said about it being more about who says it, and the context it's being said in.

I agree. like two homosexuals can call each other "fags" and it not matter.

But if I came in here and said "So and so looked faggish" that would be offensive.

Makes perfect sense.

Tooki once jumped me for using "fag0rt" in an image. At the time I didn't agree I was doing anything wrong.

He told me if it offended anyone, it being a offensive word, not to do it.

Now I agree. I just wish there was consistency.

That goes a long with "get er up the hill" when telling someone to hurry up and get to the top of the hill.

One doesn't have to be talking to a female when saying such things.

Just how they pronounce said words.

They actually say the southern accent comes from the German and French accent turned into English.

That is where the draw comes from.

Esp in Louisiana, he Cajun dialect stems from French accents.

So your basic southerner probably had French or German ancestors.

Remember, America is just a reflection of the rest of the world.

Redneck is a derogatory term, and no one uses it more frequently than southerners. Anyone who would be offended by the word obviously doesn't visit a Mac forum, or even own a computer for that matter.

The "proud to be a redneck" stuff just boggles my mind though. It's like saying "yes, I'm illiterate, poor white trash but I'm damn proud of it!"
