BBC - Capital - Return of ‘airpocalypse’: Beijing’s expats flee smog

Wonder what a very good expat salary in Beijing is nowadays.

GIS of 'mexico city pollution' and 'beijing pollution' is interesting. And scary.

Tokyo seems to be up there as well.

Pollution in Beijing is so bad it 'snows' big puffy flakes of the crap at night/early morning. It is horrible, spent a month there - it ruined a good camera from dust particles, and I was coughing brown tar for weeks.

Tokyo is like a mountain forest in spring compared to any Chinese city, except for the pungent sewer when it's 94F and 99 % humidity. Odd that it's even mentioned.

Went to Hong Kong recently, it was nearly as bad there. Seeing what you're breathing really sucks. More and more I think about retiring to NZ.

And heh - The Great Eagles are there too, although they were too busy to carry a little hobbit and his stupid ring to a volcano which would've saved him years plus hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives for the effort.
Just saying don't count on them.

It's been a 10 out of 10 on the pollution index in London this week though so it's not all a Far East problem. Saharan dust combined with vehicular pollution. Not sure what 10/10 means in actuality though. 100% pollution? Shouldn't we all be dead? Anyway was fairly unpleasant.

Well, compared to your UK scale, Beijing was probably Eleventy Billion out of 10.
