Microsoft wants more iOS developers to use its services, and hopes to do so by hosting an "afterparty" after the end of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference's first day.
The event, which will start "immediately after" the WWDCState of the Union address on June 13, is being opened up to anyone who identifies as an iOS or OS X developer, with Microsoft also opening it up to developers not attending WWDC itself.
The join Xamarin and Microsoft WWDC party, subtitled "The Future of Apps," is being held at the Twitter building right behind the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, the venue for the WWDC address. Microsoft is also providing the ability to meet the developers behind the Outlook iOS app, to talk about how Microsoft is "reinventing itself on iOS," and for attendees to also play around with robotics and drones. A door prize is also being offered, with the choice of either an Apple Watch Sport or an Xbox One to the winners.
Acquired by Microsoft and shown off during the
Build conference, Xamarin is a tool used to develop on multiple platforms at the same time, by sharing the same background code between apps made for iOS, Android, and Windows. Attendees at the party will be able to try out the environment for themselves, as well as the Xamarin Test Cloud, which can be used to automatically test every feature of an app on more than a thousand devices on a regular basis throughout development.
