Just got a powerbook for graphic design. I was just wondering if you guys had any good recommendations for a good mouse or trackball. My main use will be for photoshop and different graphic apps. What do you find better suited for that type of work? A mouse or trackball? Brands? Stores to buy from?

I'm a fan of Logitech's Mouseman series. I use the dual-optical with my Ti800 for everything from Photoshop to Final Cut Pro to Maya. Works like a charm. Comfortable too.

I highly recommend the Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical for precision work. Make sure you have a quality pad from www.func.net or www.everglide.com to go with your awesome mouse.

However, this is blatently a Peripherals topic, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were banished into the Peripherals forum within a few hours.

It may be Microsoft but the thing rocks (and matches):

Logictech just rolled out some new optical mice today, the MX-700 is my favorite. Meanwhile, I'm using their optical wheel mouse special edition for almost a year and it just works fine with the built-in OS X driver.

I've used Logitech and Kensington trackballs. The Logitech design is nice, but it doesn't fit my hand properly. The Kensington is fantastic. The best thing you can do is try before you buy.

Make sure that whatever mouse you get, it's got a titanium or stainless steel finish

I have an optical Logitech mini mouse, the surface is a curved piece of brushed stainless steel. Goes perfectly with the TiBook.

(sorry for being frivolous, I know this was a pro question. Hee hee hee)

Thanks for all the help. I think I am going to go with the logitech. And one more question, Is there that big of a difference between high quality mouse pads and regular ole' wal-mart ones?

Yes. There's a world of a difference. That's just me, though.

Buy a fUnc sUrface and feel the difference. It's the best $20 I've ever spent.

Indeed it is, and indeed it has been! "Banished" is a little harsh, though, methinks! Moved, however, it has!

I realise this might be heresy but I've always found the Microsoft mice to be excellent.

The Intellimouse Explorer Optical

I suspect the wireless version probably isn't of interest?

But MS has always done me proud as far as pointing is concerned.

If it's Photoshop and design/illustration you're doing, it's probably worth getting a Wacom Graphire tablet. I just bought a mouse today, from Tesco, of all places:

Mine is a Lindy branded one, white with the red wheel (which glows with movement, by the way) I've seen it online at a few sites ( www.dumpcomputers.com ) and liked it because it was the most "Pro Mouse" looking, and it's 2 buttons and scroll wheel. I'm using it now, a CD came with it, but you don't need it for OS X, it just works. There's always USB Overdrive if you want to configure the buttons and tracking acceleration etc. though.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.
