It''s just been announced that Westlake will be porting RTCW to the Mac. Boy is Westlake keeping busy these days. How much involvement did Id have in RTCW, cause I would have thought they would have created the Mac version.

Some details are here http://www.imgmagazine.com/news/stor...ArticleID=4500

Sounds like it'll be out in February next year - the article says Jan or Feb, but I think it'll be February.

Yeah a G4/1400 with a GeForce 3

But right now on a G4/350 768MB With GeForce 2MX it's not so bad...

So how do I get this damn MP test thing to work?

iBook OS X.1 600 MHz. Networked either wirelessly or wired.

Do I have to set up my own server, or are there online servers already?

Single player is greyed out, and multiplayer has no servers listed.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Just run the app
Then select MultiPlayer
And double click a server!

There you go!

On an iBook, better set the video prefs down

Hmmm... Something's not working then. If it makes a difference I'm behind a router, but I'm not blocking any ports that I know of. For some reason I can't see any of the servers.

Good ol' B.J. Blazcowicz.

But... Did I miss something? What happened to Graeme's Cocoa port?

This may sound stupid, but when you first start it up I think "Lan" is slected. You need to change it to internet. It's kinda close to where the refresh server button is.

My philosophy: get a good Mac but save some money for a custom-built $600 PC that will outperform the best G4 in gaming.

Yep. I'm an idjut. That solved it. However, it's irrelevant now. Playing Wolf on this iBook 600 Rage 128 Mobility is worse than self-flaggelation (not that I would know ). Even with almost everything off at 640x480 it's a slide show for fps. Quake 3 is playable though, albeit just barely.
My philosophy: get a good Mac but save some money for a custom-built $600 PC that will outperform the best G4 in gaming.
I think I'll use my lowly Celeron PC for gaming. Maybe this is a good thing, so I'm not gaming when I should be doing work on my laptop.

I will definately be one to buy the game as soon as it hits the shelves here in Australia, but generally we are a month or so behind the U.S. for software. Problem is that I have the opportunity to go to a 50-odd way LAN on 19th January. I have an 800DP and Cinema Display that I want to make the PCers cringe at, as well as a mate with a 667 G4 PB, one with a 500 G4 PB, another with a 500 G3 PB, and a 600 iBook to donate to a friend for the day. We want to make a Mac corner to have bit of a face to show, problem is that Wolf wont be out by then by the looks of it. There will also be a bout of Unreal Tournament to be had but we want to show some face at Wolf. Does anyone know if the demo can have other maps added to it to make it run against the full PC version, or if there is ANY way to get hold of a pre-release, full, beta version?

Well, I dunno about the people with the other machines, but the friend with the iBook is gonna get his @ss kicked. It runs like garbage on my iBook 600.

Even the most hardcore Mac users stop thinking Macs are great for gaming after they see my Athlon XP rig that pumps out more than 300 frames per second at 1024 by 768.

A friend of mine has the PC version of the game and there are two seperate engines for MP and SP. I imagine that Graeme ported the MP engine and not the SP engine.

Why do Mac games perform so horribly? A top of the line Mac is outdone by a lowly PC. I myself have a 733 PIII PC and a 600 G3 (iBook). There is a big difference when I run RTCW or Diablo II in both machines. I'm sure other games feel that way. The only game that feels lightning fast on the iBook is Unreal Tournament (but that's in Classic). Maybe the PC version is better but the Mac version runs fast enough to not stand out as much.

Macs are great for gaming. So does your Athlon XP heat your home as well?

I think that's because the Mac has a horribly slow bus. Hope they'll improve that soon.

*sigh*... I went off to college this year, and even though I have used macs my ENTIRE life, I knew that I would be spending ALOT of time on my computer playing games and downloading DivX movies. So what did I do? I spent 2000$ and custom configured a pretty nice setup for entertainment. Some of what im running...

1.4 Ghz Athalon
512mb DDR Ram
60gig HD
Soundblaster Platinum 5.1 (with cambridge 5.1 surround speakers)
Leadtech Winfast GF3 (got the best ratings)

That machine TEARS any macintosh a new arsehole in games. UT alone for example I get 160 FPS. I can run everything on high in higher than 1024x768 with 15 bots in a large map, and I hardly ever dip below 100 FPS...

I love OSX, I love the designs...but when i want to play a game or do all the "fun" entertainment thigns that us college kids do...I have to go with a PC. Its cheaper, handles games better, has more warez...and has morpheus for music...

But, my next computer WILL be a mac (waiting for the G5)...I can always throw new graphics cards in my PC to keep it playing games every other year or so.

I would think that with Job's move to a "digital lifestyle" type computer, games would be one of several things included..lets see what people in a "digital lifestyle" would typicaly use a computer for:

1. Word Processing
2. Email/Internet
3. Video/Photo editing
5. Movies/Audio
6. Games

That just about covers it ALL...dosen't it? Now then, with the exception of games...all the other catagories the mac excells or at least breaks even on the one or two it dosent excell in...

If Apple did a few things:
-upped the bus speed
-put pressure to realese altivec enhanced titles
-releaes "more" games
-advertise as a gaming platform
-Switch to DDR ram
-made 2 buttom mouse standard (who plays starcraft with a one button mouse? Not me..)

Thats my gripe about macs and games. Haha, games are the ONLY reason I bought a PC--and I'm pleasantly surprised by it's relaiblity and preformance. It sure dosen't look cool or have a pretty GUI...
