hey all, okay i am so very close to getting a mac it isn't funny!
(as a PC user i am about to plundge into the depths of the mac world)

Due to finance, i have decided to get the emac over the imac (800mhz), but i have few questions...

will the emac be able to do such things as: (this may sound very stupid i know, just a little last min jitters)

Flash animation (creating)
creating DVDs (video imput ect.)
are those little speakers tiny and usless?

ohh and final question, is there ANY way do u think i could ask Apple to customly put a Super drive in there 15" imac model? cause thats what is stopping me from getting the imac

Sorry if this sounds completely stupid but yeah just a little nervous!

- thanks all

If you don't mind a refurbished machine, you can find the previous-generation 15-inch SuperDrive iMac in the online Apple Store for about US$1,250.

For $1299, you can get a brand new eMac with Superdrive. Don't bother with asking Apple to put a Superdrive in the low end iMac; ain't gonna happen.

If you ask, the worst thing that could possibly happen is they will say no. I'd ask 'em.
BrunoBruin has got a good idea too about the refurbished iMac.

You're right; you can always ask. Let me know if they do it; I work for Apple, and, AFAIK, it would be a first.

hey that sounds like a good idea about the refurbished imac, although i had a look on the apple.com.AU webpage (as i live in australia) and i couldn't find any, does Apple Australia do refurbishments?

But i think i saw a newspaper add which sells them any way.

thanks guys

Back to the original question at hand:

Yes you can do all those things with ease. Also, the speakers are quite good. When I bought my eMac I was planning on buying new speakers but they are really good for the size and the fact that they are built in, so I just kept using them instead.

Dude, you can create flash animation on a 300mhz mac. I know because I've done it. As for video input, yeah, it'd be fine. And as for the superdrive, my mother has a 15" iMac FP with superdrive. Just get a used one on ebay or something.

And yes, the speakers that come with any mac are pretty much useless.
