I lost my Install CDs for Mac Panther so now all that I have is the retail box and a serial number. I just downloaded a copy of panther illegally, hoping to install it with my (legal) serial number (A right and a wrong make a right, right?)

First of all, this is legal, right? Please don't make me buy it again.

I only have a PC, and I can't figure out how to burn the files onto an HFS formatted CD that my mac (a G4 cube) can startup with.

Any help from anyone OK with (semi) stealing a copy of panther?

I'm leaning towards no. As for buring it, i'm not sure how.

You have a Panther "legal serial number?" That is very interesting.

So it's not believable to lose the CDs but still have the box and serial number?

Have you tried seeing if Apple will replace the CDs for you? That would probably be a lot simpler.

Wow, you guys made some really excellent points!

I didn't realize that I was looking at the product number, M9227LL/A. I just assumed it was the serial number (it's been a while since I installed it).

I think I'll try taking my box to the apple store, see what happens...
