Some quick shots of my car and one with my friends using his DSLR (my first time using one), and a shot in the dark at an HDR (High Dynamic Range ...for Dakar)

opinion?

There's some sort of weird artifacting going on. I see this giant white car-like shape in the middle of all your pictures.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

That's not what HDR means at all. The colors are highly saturated, but whether that's enhanced beyond the original color of the scene or not, the dynamic range has to do with the amount of detail in shadow and highlight areas.

(That said, I have not been impressed with a lot of the amateur HDR photos people are cranking out, they look freakish.)

True, technically; but most HDR I've seen seems to be a lot better at exaggerating colours than at bringing out detail. Despite the technical meaning, HDR has (to me, at least) become more or less synonymous with garish colours.
