Also, the first shot of the slum, narrows?, we see Batman on the lamppost as it begins to rain. Notice his mask is different? It's an exact shot of one of Frank Miller's drawings in Dark Knight.
Like LOTR, if you're familiar with the nuances of the original story (read the books/comics), you got a lot more out of this move because they made sure to add things only us Batman D0rks would appreciate and notice.

I just saw this the other night. I was impressed! The previews really sucked, but the movie was very good. I loved the Scarecrow, but I didn't think he got to do enough. I'm not a big fan of multiple villains in a movie like this. Word to the whoever said Bale looked weird in the cowl. Katie Holmes wasn't bad at all. The movie was very slow to start, but I really enjoyed it. OTOH, better than Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2? No way in hell!
