IT IS A PET BATHING DEVICE.

My cat looked like that when I put him in my VW Beetle one day and he wasn't used to being in a car.

The cat's reaction was more than likely caused by the novelty of the experience than the unpleasantness. Usually people who love animals are not going to spend a ton of money on a device to torture them.

Please, less Emo Phillips and more Mr. Spock, hmm kay?

More scenes of "torture."

While I was laughing I actually felt extremely uncomfortable. I abhor what they did to the cat, but it for some reason made me laugh. Nervous laughter maybe.

But I get where you are coming from.

I agree. I like cats, and the cat must be difficult to clean by hand.

Now if they stuck the cat in a tumble dryer, that would be out of line.

See the news coverage that aired on KTLA Channel 5 on 3/29/2004:

Hydro-muscular massage and bath in California’s first Pet Spa, a totally automatic cabin that washes and blow-dries dogs and cats! This patented system was designed by a team of veterinarians, animal behaviorists and engineers for the well being of pets. The computerized cabin safely maintains air and water temperatures at the recommended levels by the board of veterinary medicine. Click on the PetSpa logo above to go to the PetSpa USA web site to learn more about PetSpa. Click on the photo's below to see Gypsy, Buster and others in the new PetSpa.
Pet Spa

The patented cabin design was developed with the Pet safety as number one priority.

This award winning patented technology is the safest and most effective pet cleaning system in the world. The unique design was created by a team of Veterinaries, Animal Behaviorists and Engineers for the well being of the Pet.

Temperatures are precisely maintained at the recommended levels by the Board of Veterinary Medicine.

Water and air temperatures are constantly monitored by the computer, which is programmed to automatically shut down the Cabin if changes of more than 3 degrees are detected.

The air inside the cabin is constantly renewed via a ventilation circuit.

During the last minute of drying, the heating elements switch off and the air in the cabin is brought down to room temperature.

The pet is placed looking through the window so that the water doesn't go directly into the eyes.

If the door is opened during the washing or drying cycle, the cabin's safety features automatically stop the process.

The difference between you and the cat is that the cat doesn't know that everything will be ok. You can clearly see that the animal is terrified.

Think about it this way: You get abducted by aliens, put in a box and probes begin to poke at you. Now as far as the alien is concerned this is perfectly harmless (we assume he's a benevolent guy) but you'd still be crapping yourself.

If you ever had to bathe him manually consider that from the cat's perspective.

Giant human. Bathtub that surrounds him that is taller than he is. Full of water. Stinging chemicals.

You must be trying to kill him. Call the police.

OMG THATS TOTALLY THE SAME THING! Except not.

Guess what? Sometimes when I run the vacuum my dog gets scared, because it doesn't understan that the vacuum makes all that noise ot clean the floor. Sometimes she jumps on the couch to try to get away from it. Gee, I guess I'm an animal abuser then.

No. I just don't see how getting a cat wet is animal abuse. If I spray my dog with a hose, or try to dry it with a hair dryer, is that abuse just because it doesn't know what I'm doing? No. I just don't get cat people, on many levels.

Have you ever heard of a malady, Vincent's Syndrome? Those who suffer from it believe this world was never meant for those as beautiful as they.

I don't think he is trying to piss anyone off.

no one said washing a cat was abuse. While washing in a tub, you control the water and soap, keep it out of the eyes and ears, talk to the cat, soothe it, try to build trust. Trapping it in a box with water going everywhere so it freaks out entirely, that's just waiting for kitty aneuryism.

It's a rare cat who loves the water, but you can at least get them to resign themselves and think, "oh well, when this is over I get a treat."

Its not just getting it wet, its putting it in a warm, noisy box where it can't see out very well, AND getting it wet.

Not the first time.

But it's interesting that you think the cat understands you when you promise him treats.

Over time it will learn that treats follow a bath. Obviously she's not insinuating that her cat has learned English.
