I am considering one of these Fujitsu ScanSnaps for our office, for converting papers to pdfs. Fujitsu has two that I noticed in a catalogue, the S500M and this fi5110 OEOXM. Both of them are duplex.

Anyone got experience with these and a view on their merits?

The 5110 is priced about 100$ cheaper, so that is one difference.

the 5110 eoxm is white and is Mac only (ie, ships with acrobat 7.0 for mac)

not sure about the other but my guess is that it's a pc version and is black in color

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was buried in the dust heap. Thank you for the link, also. I think one of these will quite likely make its way in to our office, although I would like to see one in operation. Have a happy new year, and thanks again.

I want one of these as well (I'm a teacher and could scan the hundreds of papers I get). But I would like one (Next revision maybe) with the new acrobat that's intel compat.... Unless there's a way to upgrade...

The new S500M is intel/ppc mac compatible.

I'm looking into getting a scansnap to pair with Devonthink Pro Office to truly make the "paperless office" come true.

Is there even a difference between the S500M and the older 5110EOXM?

The only difference seems to be that the older one is 20% slower in scanning.

Is that it?

Sorry I do not know the answer to your query. How do you like DevonThink Pro Office? Isn't that in beta now still?

It's currently at 1.3b2.

But it's pretty stable for me, enough to start using it

It comes with acrobat 7.0. I think the new 8.0 is the intel / unversal version. So I'm guess the 'next' version will be good for us.

Wait a sec, I guess 7.0 is universal...

ScanSnap for Macintosh "S500M" : FUJITSU

Wish they had it in version 8.0 though since that is what is out at the moment...

I think I'm going to end up purchasing the older 5110EOXM version.

It's cheaper, and the only drawback I see from reading both manuals is the fact this one is slightly slower. Which is not that big of a deal, since it's still relatively fast.

Both look very similar.

When you get this ScanSnap, I would be interested in hearing how you like it. I wish I lived closer to the Apple Store at the Mall of America, someplace likely to have one of these.

I have never seen one at an apple store... I guess the only thing you can do is order one to try out.... Perhaps if I wound up purchasing the new Adobe CS that's all universal, I would get one.. I just don't really want to be paying for 7.0 acrobat when I know 8.0 is avail.

Hi,
I'm looking for advice on becoming "paperless". My scanning will include handwritten pages. OCR would be impossible so I would like to attach keywords to each scan page so that I can later find what I'm looking for. Is such a feature common in scanning software such as Devonthink? Are there other options?

TIA,
Allan
