I've looked real hard, I cannot find the avoid toll roads option anymore in app for iphone/ Google Maps is it gone?

Also, start navigation, is that button gone? it's just starts without that? thanks.

For me...

I enter in a destination and hit the car button on the bottom right...

This takes me to a page where I can select which route I want to take. The "start navigation" button is an arrow on the bottom right.

At the top, to the right of the origin and the destination, are three vertical dots. If I tap that, on the menu which slides up is "Route Options". Avoid tolls is one of those route options.

Thanks S, I do see today the option on tolls.

But I don't see start navigation anywhere, it just starts anyway, and I don't see any route options, it's just one route given that's it.

On iphone.

Sorry for the delay!

If I enter in a location, and then hit the car button, I get something like this:

The blue route is the one the app suggests. The grey routes are alternate options you can pick. It won't necessarily give you alternates. I had to type in a few different destinations to get one with multiple options.

The "Start Navigation" button is that arrow on the bottom right.

Ok S, that helps. That blue arrow works fine, but I used to always see the words start navigation, so I got perplexed. Now it just the blue arrow...

Oddly the dektop Google Maps is much better with route options than iphone, with desktop you can see the roads on the map (you can zoom easily), and there is a text based blurb on the side too. Then you can pick..

I recommend taking a peek at Waze. Its schtick is real-time updating of your route based on traffic conditions.

If you have to deal with traffic at all, you will love it.

Google owns it, so it has their map mojo.

So you're saying it's gonna get killed as soon as enough people love and depend upon it?

They'd fold the important stuff into Maps.

I've used Wave, and it's hip, but Google Maps is cleaner.

Very true, but I'll take getting off the interstate right as traffic comes to a standstill.

Though it should be noted the algorithm doesn't think in terms of "this is not just merely the ghetto, this is most sincerely the ghetto".

What irks me is my back-asswards state designates my (small) van as truck, which cuts off all sorts of streets a non-trucker GPS will try to send me down.

There's a major highway here where a truck plate is an instaticket, but the GPS constantly wants to use it because, umm... it's a major ****ing highway.
