is this possible? like have a text appear on the desktop, but the window that contains it is invisible?

If you got TinkerTool, try setting the terminal to completely transparent.
You can click through the window, the text is not transparent though, and you can still see the edges of the window and stuff.
But ya, you should be able to

Hope this helps out some. I don't know if I'm doing it right, but it works, sorta.

It does a bunch of subclassing of NSWindow, NSView, and NSTableView to paint clear over everything. I tried to comment it, but if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them.

Just use
kOverlayWindowClass = 14L, /* transparent window which allows 'screen' drawing via CoreGraphics (Mac OS X only)*/
in your window creation call and you'll get a completely invisible window which you can draw on.
