I like your theme, others do as well. At the end of the day that is what is important. The prizes aren't a big deal here. I'd be really surprised if you or I won even just the license, but we can both still hope.

Tell you what I'll do... you take all your votes, put them on mine, and then I give you the second half of the license code when we win. If we win the bt scanner, I'll chop it in half and send you your part
Yeah, you're rightbutbutumI sorta need that money. I'm in debt and I need to pay back a "loan" with the money I have, but I need to buy a gift for Christmas with that money (Damn iPod was expensive). If I ever get that certificate, I can buy the present and pay of that "loan" I had.

Ok. I agree. As long as I get the part of the scanner with the batteries.

Agreed. You'll get batteries, and chop them in half.

Bah, dl is too expensive for me personally, so this is really my only chance of getting a license for it. They went way over my spending price on this one.

But you really have to compare it to other apps that do the same thing. DL is pretty nice and very slick.

Phildid the judges vote yet?

The competition is 15 bucks, and does most of what dl does.

The competition actually does a few things that DL doesn't, but that didn't stop me from buying a DL license. Even though it may not match other products feature for feature, it is hands down the best cataloging app out there IMO.

Didn't phil say votes would flood in today?
I have the same score I had yesterday, and so does most of the entries.

Judges will do the panel voting this weekend, though most of them have probably already voted as a regular visitor.

So, do we want to start the bettn? Who do you think will win the 1st place prize?

I put my coffee mug and Led Zep III CD on iKea. It seems the most likely to win.

And no, I'm not trying to be a suck up.
Probably the best designed one.

Hey, I just think one of the themes with the lights on it will win. They seem to be doing well in the competition. I'm going to kick myself if that skull theme wins.

Does this include the judges' comments?
Did they post anything besides the comments they made a week ago?

[Edit] Nevermind. I'm disappointed in the winning entries.

Oh yeah, I found this:

<$MTInclude module="Rating"$>

On the first place winner's little recap (with all the pictures and stuff on the top).

Well.. Mmm Mmm I don't want to break it up but try this guy booxter

It does the same stuff as DL but better and cheeper... $14.99

It doesn't look as "pretty" but it's DL's big brother when it comes to functions.

That is, of course, if you only want to catalog books. Some people need a little more out of their software...

BTW, if you just need books, there is a free app called Books. Look on macupdate.

They all have isight scanning... at least all three of those...
One thing that booxter has that DL doesn't is the vast info on your books.
I know DL says they're getting there but for now it's annoying.

But hey, I'm with you guys.. I prefer DL just for the looks... function comes second... at least for this type of app.

Chronopath Library doesn't - or if it does they don't mention it on their website.

Wha?

I have to admit to being a little surprised (and disappointed) with the results...

From the three winners it seems usability counts for nothing?

Usability did count. That was why some very high reader scored entries (skulls) was pushed down by panel votes.

But anyhow, for the rest of you, final scores are up on the site. So go and check out how closely you missed out on a prize

Not to be a sore loser, but rather to offer some perspective on my disappointment:

I was trying to decide which of two designs to submit to this competition and a member of the Panel offered their advice on which to choose. The choice was between iKea and this (Hippy Pad):

I was advised to submit iKea, which was consistently rated in first or second place throughout the reader voting period. With high reader scores and encouragement from a panel member I have to admit I was feeling confident about at least a podium place.

So imagine my surprise when the same Panel who advised me to submit iKea over Hippy Pad gave two of the three winning places to brick-based designs not dissimilar to my alternative entry, meanwhile my actual entry finished in 6th place!

I hope this sheds some light on why I feel somewhat disillusioned about the contest results.

:frustrated:

I agree. Variety was not very good with the results. All bricks. Maybe I should have copied off that desktop, sacrificed my original idea and used a background broken up by intersecting lines.

Damn. I'm going back in time, Mr. Pewterschmidt! [Ahhh!]

I think what everyone is getting at here is that it seems that panel voting meant all, and that general public voting meant nothing.

I do think that first place was justified, it was a very nice design. However I do have to echo that 2nd and 3rd place are extremely similar - I'd say one or the other deserved it, but not both, and another design (like IKEA) deserved a place in the top 3 as well.

I do like how I was only 12% away from winning, though.

Ya, I didn't care much about winning either, but I thought siMac had a good entry. Good idea with a good delivery. (reading his description was way different than everyone elses)

I disliked a few of the darker ones, but tried all except for mike's.

What I was getting at is the general public voting meant too much. It's like I had a hit on me or something. How the Hell did I do as good as the Lego one (before voting)? Come on! How is that even possible?! I vote for a totally panel vote next time, where the people voting are people who know what they're talking about.

Oh well. I wonder what the next contest will be. Another theme mockup? (Hint Hint)

I'm not a graphic designer. Just a Mac user who can appreciate good design. Ikea was the best IMO when one considers aesthetics and usability. I gave it 5 stars.

OAW

PS: For those who thought the background was too plain, perhaps the creator could create an Ikea II that adds a subtle texture to the gray background. Something to give it a little flavor but not be too distracting.
