Not had a lot of luck googleing thsi, perhaps someone here can help

MacBook c2D white. Boot sup fine. With screen in quarter open position screen displays fine, open halfway and the screen goes black and stays black when fully opened. When shut back down to a quater open the screen comes back on.

I'm sure there's a magnetic sensor that tells the mac when the lid is open. Could this be borked? Or does the magnet in the latch fulfill this task?

Or, more likely the video cable is catching and when the lid opens it is pulled away from the motherboard connector.

Machine has been dropped (large crack on front of case so I would guess maybe some loosening of innards.

Any ideas?

That's the video cable, probably getting pinched. I'd recommend fixing it before opening the lid too many more times because you might permanently damage it. At least now, if you can fix the pinch, you can save the cable. Hopefully, it's not the connector, but it very well could be as well.

Yeah I was betting on the cable more than the sensor since the case has some great drop damage on it.

If I see ONE more person with a WhiteBook exhibiting faults and dirty great dents in it!!"

"This has been dropped hasn't it?" pointing to dirty great crack in the case.

"Has it, I hadn't noticed"

Oh rarly.
