Hi,

A friend of mine liked my pismo so much he is offering to trade powerbooks with me. I would also have to add $200 on my end.

This is what I have:
Pismo G3 400mhz
512mb Memory
20gb Hard Drive (I'm keeping my 60gb 5400)
DVD
2+ hr battery
Mint Condition

This is what I would be getting:
Titanium G4 550mhz
512mb memory
20gb Hard Drive
DVD
Brand new 4+ hour battery
Airport card
Mint Condition (Several Parts were just replaced - lcd, palmrest, hinges, etc.)
Apple Care to January 2005

Do you think this is a worthy trade? The g4 is beautiful, not a mark on the screen. display casing, or palmrest (no chipping, scratches, nothing) since they were all recently replaced.
The titanium would be cool too since they are easily upgradeable.

Please let me know what you think. Would you do it?

Thanks!!

go for it. only possible problem i see is that you'll be getting a less reliable machine compared to the pismo. since the applecare coverage on the tibook is about to end in a few months you may have bite the bullet down the road if any issues arise

Going from a G3 to a G4 sounds like a good deal. And it appears that you feel comfortable enough upgradnig it later, or troubleshooting if needed.
Plus, you'd be getting Airport and AC and a new battery. Those alone make the $200 worth it as an exchange.

Hi,

Thanks... It is really tough to let go of the pismo, it is such a nice machine. I'm still thinking about it. If I could offer cash for that titanium powerbook, how much do you think is good to offer?

Also, if I wanted to install the 60gb drive that I have, will that void the applecare warranty? I've done it before on different titaniums so I know it's not that difficult, but I would hate to void the applecare. That would be one of the main reasons for the trade.

let me know,
Thanks!!

Hard drives in the TiBooks are considered user-upgradeable parts and don't affect warranty status. You just have to be careful not to damage any of the bottom facing cables. An apple reseller friend of mine has seen Apple void a warranty repair because they found the cables damaged from someone messing around.

Hi,

Yeah, but the pismo is so nice!!

Do you think the performance of the Ti will blow the pismo out the water? I do have a g3 500 processor that I should be receiving in a day or two.

Any of you think the pismo is a better choice and I should just keep my money? I've thought about the other processor upgrades, but many are now saying that they are having issues with theirs.

Tough call, so keep your opinions coming!!
Thanks.

No way. Upgrade the pismo, if you must or save your money towards an Al book. I skipped the entire Ti family of powerbooks and don't regret it.

The TiBook will be much faster in OS X, because it has a Radeon graphics card that supports Quartz Extreme. That alone will cause a huge performance gap.

Plus, you get an Airport card. Those are worth a lot of money these days. I would definitely go for it.
