Only one window one tab open. Fan constantly ON and 80-90% Safari CPU usage according to Activity Monitor

Safari 1.3 (v312) with Java Update. Quit Safari and fan turns off. Favicon and other mods already done long ago.

WTF is going on????

If you're viewing a site with animations, that's likely the problem. But if you have Safari launched but with no open windows, and Safari is using CPU, then that is odd.

Pithhelmet to control the animated gifs. Or upgrade to Safari 2.0.

I think it's just Safari's really poor memory management

I've had Safari sucking up 85% cpu with NO windows open, yeah, beat that!

The solution, always, is to quit and reopen Safari. pretty good web browser, just horribly horribly written.

If only Camino supported .mac bookmark syncing, I could use it full time. My fan never comes on my Powerbook when using Camino.

How do you get safari 2.0 to stop animated gifs. I couldn't see anything in preferences for that.

Safari 2 is Tiger only sadly. Safari 1.3 is 2.0 without the RSS stuff.

Pithhelmet is a third-party app that lets you control such things. Works for Panther and/or Tiger.
