I've had a pair of Altec Lansing speakers (actually 3 piece with subwoofer) that have given me faithful service for many years.

I am looking for a replacement as this set is now not functioning properly.

I seek recommendations on outstanding 3 piece or 5 piece speaker systems which are affordable (preferably $100 or less) with very good or excellent sound. Thanks in advance!

Check out the Acoustic Aego M 2.1 (which can also be 3.1 should you choose) speaker set. I have a pair and am thoroughly satisfied with them. I think it was 'What Hi-Fi' that gave them 5 stars.

Thanks for the rec. Acoustic Aego get excellent reviews. They don't seem to be available, at least not readily, stateside. I got a pair of Altec Lansing's years and years ago (02? 03?) and they sound pretty darn good. I think I got 'em for $20!

They still sound great, but the wiring seems to be going bad. Maybe I'll get another pair of Altec Lansing's?

For under $100 the only 2.1 system I'd recommend is Cambridge Soundworks

B&H sent out this overview over computer speakers. The M-Audio AV30 looks interesting, but I haven't tested it yet.
