Er, no. That's for the later iMac G3s. The originals require removing the "can" from the iMac, then to access the original RAM, removing the processor card.
Apple doesn't consider this a DIY process.

Instructions for the extra slot, not hidden under the processor card, are available here -
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=43012

Better pics here:

To access the original RAM, the processor card needs to be gently pried out.

Put simply, it's a pain in the butt. Have someone experienced do it for you.

about the "sod it" thing, i meant testing to see if it was the 32mb ram, not "sod it, ive gave up on my mac."

i dont know anyone who even has a mac, let alone some one who can install my ram....

im gonna get a 80gb for Xmas and , hopefully, 256mb ram.

0k? d035 'hat an5w3r ur q?

There are quite a few people on this board (and others) who could, and very well might.

Removing the processor card to get to the bottom RAM slot is relatively easy (I do it all the time), but the main thing is to make sure you take anti-static precautions so you don't fry anything. I didn't see why you want to check the bottom RAM stick, so I can't help with diagnosing your problem. If you want to keep that iMac, however, I would recommend taking out the 32mb and upgrading. Contact me at [email protected] if you want me to send some detailed info on getting to the bottom slot.

I, Macman
