So right now I'm enjoying a bowl of Orville R. stovetop popcorn. I really love popcorn. It's so good. How do you all enjoy your popcorn? I like mine slightly salted and with a ton of butter.

My wife makes the best popcorn. We buy black popcorn from the Amish and then she pops it on the stove with one of these...
Add some butter and salt it up and we're ready to go!

I never liked popcorn. Until I tried them with syrup instead of salt. So much better.

My favorite popcorn:
Theatre: Fresh sesame seed oil movie theatre popcorn with "in the middle" butter where they fill it half-way, put a squirt of butter, then top it off. That way you get that buttery tastes all the way through. I don't like putting the butter on top because then the top is too buttery and the bottom isn't buttery enough. Bleh.
Almost all the big chain theatres (AMC, UnitedArtist, etc.) use corn oil with the popcorn. That tastes pretty good, however, there are a few independent, smaller theatres that make their popcorn using sesame seed oil! Man what a difference. It tastes great.
Best accompanied by a nice cold Coca-Cola.
Home: Cast iron pot, little bit of olive oil, sprinkle of salt (just a little!), let it pop. Mmmmm. The way my dad always made it.
Faire: Kettle Corn! HUGE cast iron cauldron with a giant wooden spoon, then they turn the kernels into enough butter and sugar that'll give you a heart attack just looking at it! Sweet & salty, it's awesome.
Perfect with some fresh lemonade.
Microwave: Act II Buttery Kettle Corn. I just got a new microwave and it's awesome! I've owned about 5 microwaves and never had one that would pop corn all the way without burning it. This one is awesome. I just stick the bag in it, hit the popcorn button, and every single kernel is popped without burning.

For a quick fix (but by no means a replacement) you should try Act II Buttery Kettle Corn.

If you're going through the trouble of popping it on the stove, why not just make home style instead of buying Pop Secret?

i've transitioned from butter to kettle corn over the years. altho only one microwaved brand (pop secret) even approaches what you can get at a fair.
anyone know of a good stovetop method for making your own? i tried it a couple times and it was far too heavy and sticky.

I have noticed most people under the age of 25 (that I encounter) have never had stove-top made popcorn. All they know is microwaved or theater popped corn. When I make it they usually just shrug and say they prefer microwave cooked better.
Now, I am a pretty good cook, and most people who are over 30 usually get this gleam in their eyes when I mention that I should make some pop corn as they know I use good ingredients and make it quite well. I even had one woman ask me to make her some for Christmas this year.
I guess younger people just like what they are used to. :/

Salt or garlic salt
Ground pepper (half the amount as salt)
Parmesan cheese (fresh or from the green can--couple shakes)
Enough melted butter or olive oil to make the above stick the the popcorn
Shake in a paper bag or toss in a big bowl

I heard about doing this 20 years ago and I have to admit, it seems like it could give you that extra push over the cliff.

It's very true. I'm 16 and I always make stovetop. I had a group of friends over this summer who decided they wanted some popcorn. I said I'd go make some. They were astonished when I pulled out the pan and some seeds and turned the stove on! I can't believe nobody had had stovetop. I can't stand microwave!

Basically what I do. Only I use season salt and romano cheese.
I don't know why we don't do stovetop popcorn, we're very much do it ourselves kind of people when it comes to food.

I've never had corn popped in bacon grease, but it sounds delicious. Jessi once made her grandmother's fried chicken for me. Chicken fried in bacon grease is absolutely divine. And very healthy!

I use 1/2 cup popcorn seeds, purchased in bulk from the local organic grocery store, and 1/4 cup organic canola oil. Stir around in 3qt pot, and then wrap the top with aluminum foil. Put on medium heat for a few minutes, until 1 kernel pops. Remove from heat for 1 minute. This lets the rest of the kernels get heat-soaked, resulting in fewer unpopped kernels.
While it's heating, I take one tblspn of butter in a mug, and throw it in the microwave. Once popped, dump in bowl, pour butter, salt, shake.
It's incredible, and since I buy it in bulk, it's dirt cheap.

Stovetop cooked is far and away better than microwave popcorn. Plus you can control the amount of butter and salt or other toppings. Much more natural flavor IMO and less artificial tasting. Try some Old Bay seasoning on it.
My mother and older brothers used to eat it as a cereal for a snack sometime. Problem is it gets soggy really quickly so the trick was to add a handful at a time. It's really quite delicious, considering some corn-based cereals we're all used to.
