I have my iMac for less than a week now and have had many questions, and most have been resolved. One question regards the remote control and using it to view my photos in the "Pictures" folder but the only options available is either iPhoto, or Aperture. Is there a way that I can use the photos in the picture folder as I don't want to use iPhoto or Aperture?

Welcome to the forums!
The remote control is for Front Row, which works directly with iPhoto for viewing photos. I don't think there's really a way around that. Why don't you want to use iPhoto?

I just don't like the way iPhoto stores the photos. I was hoping for away around the limitation.

Front Row, the other iLife apps, and even now Office 2008 have media managers that are looking for files stored in a particular way. I don't think there is a way around this. Check Versiontracker to see if there is any software that might get around this, but I doubt there is.

That was the answer I thought I would get, it limits the user as to the source of the media. Oh well, I never would have expected such limitations from Mac from Windows yes!

Set iPhoto to not copy images into its library (i.e. use them where you put them), then add your photos to iPhoto.

I was hoping that I could do it without iPhoto.

Could you please provide the path as I haven't been able to find it? Thanks.

What Tooki is suggesting should work for you: but you will have to use iPhoto to some extent. The suggested solution allows you to leave your media where it is, but still be able to view the media in FrontRow.

Prefs-> Advanced-> Import: Copy items to the iPhoto Library
Uncheck that checkbox.
