Myself and many other users report over in SETI@home's mac forums that the new 5.21 app is not working. Resets, updates and restarts have no effect.

error message every second!:
"Wed Jul 18 12:52:15 2007|SETI@home|Restarting task 13my00ab.23244.27073.997154.3.175_1 using setiathome_enhanced version 521
Wed Jul 18 12:51:50 2007|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project."

Is 5.21 working for anyone at all?

Nope, it's not beta. It's SETI enhanced 5.21. Everyone check your app, as many people are getting auto downloads of this now.

It's happening to me too. But only on non-intel machines.

I've reinstalled, and even deleted every trace of seti/BOINC and re-reinstalled again. :/

oh - version 5.10.7

If we are using alexkan's application, with the app_info.xml, then we just need to add 5.21 to the application list, right? Then BOINC should be redirected to use alexkan's application instead of 5.21.

No problems on any of my machines, but I am using the optimized clients on all 4 of them.

Just to clarify this, I've only encountered this problem on PPC hardware. Out of 32 machines, a handful are PPC
+There is no app_info.xml to be found on any of them - where does it hide?

You would only have the app_info.xml file if you are running one of Alex' optimized workers.

I thought I was running Alex's optimized client, but it was either trashed when I reset the project with the 5.21 event, or... some fault of mine.

Now I get an error about permissions and needing to reinstall when starting up BOINC with the 7.1nographics optimized client. Error disappears and BOINC runs when I remove the optimized client. I've tried repairing permissions. I've tried updating to the latest BOINC 5.10.7. What's the fix for this?

(quit BOINC)
(in a terminal copy/paste the following two lines)
cd /Library/Application\ Support/BOINC\ Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/
sudo chown boinc_master:boinc_project *
(enter your root password)
(restart BOINC)

I'm a bit confused about log messages in BOINC Manager.

I have this after I just started up after applying fixes suggested in this message thread:

So, the log reports seeing the app_info.xml file, but the tasks are reported as "using setiathome_enhanced version 521."

Here is my app_info.xml file:

-----
<app_info>
<app>
<name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>seti_enhanced-ppc-v7.1-g4-nographics</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name>
<version_num>521</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>seti_enhanced-ppc-v7.1-g4-nographics</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>
-----

Do I have this set up correctly to run seti_enhanced-ppc-v7.1-g4-nographics, which is in my folder "setiathome.berkeley.edu" where the above app_info.xml file also resides?

Am I indeed running seti_enhanced-ppc-v7.1-g4-nographics right now?

Thanks!

Yep. The whole point of the app_info.xml is trickery. Once you return those results, look at the result details on the S@H web site. It will tell you the application you actually used. It may need to wait until you crunch one from the beginning for the result page to show it.

PPC version is now 522 on BOINC 5.10.10 beta

As well as changing the app_info file to 522 I had to remove the -1 from line 12 <platform> and close up the gaps.

Seems to be running ok and error msgs have stopped. I don't know if it is actually using the v7.1 or not. I will check the results when I get some.
