Apple will eventually release data about the racial and gender diversity of its workforce, according to Tim Cook. The CEO made the comment at
this week's Sun Valley conference in Idaho. "We'll release the information at some point," he
remarked. "We are more focused on actions."
Bloomberg notes that a variety of Silicon Valley companies are coming under fire for the homogeneity of their hiring practices. In the case of Apple, some shareholders have been urging Apple to diversify both its board of directors and its high-level executive staff. In each case, Apple's ranks are dominated by white men; the board has just one woman, Andrea Jung.
Wall Street Journal sources have claimed that Cook is "actively"
searching for new board members. It's uncertain, though, if that's related to wanting to appear more diverse, or simply about filling in knowledge gaps.
