I have a DP533. A couple of months ago startup failed (question mark - can't find hard drive). No problem - I bought a new Hard Drive, installed it in place of the original, and added the original as a slave in case it just needed a threat to wake it up.
Everything worked, both drives show up.
But...
A couple of weeks ago, strange behaviour began. On waking from sleep, I get <beep beep> from speaker and SPOD. After 30 seconds, another <beep beep> still and SPOD. Repeat and eventually (after 2-4 cycles) the hard drive spins up, and the machine acts as if nothing happened.
1) What does <beep beep> from speaker mean?
2) Is this my old hard drive taking the system down?

Have you run Disk First aid or tried zapping the PRAM.
Which OS are you running?
I can't find what two chimes mean are at the moment.

I suspect it's a hardware failure warning. Check the Knowledgebase at Apple's web site under support.

Yes, and yes (but does apple-option-p-r do anything anymore?) 10.2.6 and nor can I.

Yup me too (specifically a hard disk failure is my guess)
I did, and I can't find any search that helps.
