I’ve been lucky enough only to spin out intentionally, however I did manage to wreck a transmission while doing it once.

I know this is hard to believe, but I think it was actually the car’s fault. AWD was still new and they hadn’t worked all the kinks out.

A baldy is when the tread is so worn (2/32 inch) that it's time to replace for safety reasons.
Thank you.

The fact that 2/32 is a measurement fits in perfectly with the "random ridiculousness" theme of the thread.

Senior woman here is a serial stowaway. Last week she got all the way to London before getting turned back.

They barred her from the airport for that, aaaaaaaand she just got arrested again.

At the airport.

A Chicago judge recently declared her a “flight risk”. story

As she's not a threat to anyone, she gets released. Until she flies to another city. No doubt she'd be doing serious time if she was in a different ethnic group.

Watch this car chase takedown around the 24:00 mark and compare it to 2008 Chevy Malibu ad.

Tire tread depth is expressed in 32nds. Tires typically start at around 11-13 32nds and when you're down below 5 you need to start thinking about replacing them. I have a tread depth gauge that reads out in 32nds.

For some things, sure. But your car wheel diameters are still in inches.

For virtually all things, actually. But our car wheel diameters are still in inches. And our organ pipe lengths are in feet.

But that's pretty much it. Even display sizes are getting shifted to cm.

Dutch Police are taking civil asset forfeiture to the next level. If you're wearing clothes that seem too expensive for your income level (or skin color?), the cops will relieve you of them. Unless you can prove you came by them legally.

While one can think of interesting editorial cartoons, never fear. The police will carry sets of simple clothes with them, just in case. So no one need walk around naked after being relieved of their designer duds.

As with all civil asset forfeiture, no one is arrested. They just take your property, and you're free to file for their return in the local court. Bearing your own legal fees of course. If you don't, the cops presently sell your former property, and pocket the proceeds.

Information is sketchy on what exactly it means and when the things are sold - at least one made it seem like things are sold only to pay off debts. The articles I have seen only speak of the problem of profiling people by judging whether they could possibly be wearing clothes that expensive. That's a problem in itself, but I have a few more questions that I'd like to have answered.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Most countries have a policy of declaring more than 10,000 USD at the airport or risk losing it all.

The UK has that policy and an additional one where customs staff (?) can look at you and question you if you have more than 1,000 pounds on you. If you don't have proof of where you got your over 1,000 pounds, you can risk losing it all also.

In the US, if you pull more out more than 10K in cash at once, expect one or more federal agencies crawling up your ass.

Pretty sure that’s how Elliott Spitzer got taken down.

edit: the bad thing about this is that although you dont have to declare it, you can still lose it if you look suspicious. 1000 pounds is not a lot of money!!! 10,000 is also not a lot of money. That amount was decided in the 1970s, and has not been increased with inflation. It should be at least 20,000 by now.

To me, the greater tragedy is boiling the lobster with the rubber bands on. Imagine all of the chemicals in the rubber bands leached into the water.

You are supposed to put them in the pot head first so they die quickly. Not sure that chopping them open with a knife is less traumatic, and developing teeny tiny stun guns for a $6 lobster is ridiculous.

I waffled on whether I should bring Leo up, but ultimately decided not to.

I’m hearing he can’t win, but may be able to extort some shut-up money.
