Yeah, it was all over the news down here in South Florida. She looks like a damn alien. Who knows about the cloning thing, though. I'm sure we'll hear plenty more about it. And supposedly something like four others are soon to be born? So the local news says.

Human cloning isn't nearly as difficult as people think, and I'd be more shocked to find bacteria on Mars than I would be to find out about a human clone (read: not shocked at all).

Anyway. Those who believe human cloning to be immoral, or who want it outlawed, are ignorant.

The fact of the matter is this: Those who want it banned are not experts in the area (if they were, they wouldn't be against it).

Remember cipher, it's you versus a lot of people however. Majority rules. The question is which is the majority...

Indeed, it's a shame.

If only people knew more about it. Ignorance just abounds - and there *is* a cure for ignorance (be it a bullet, or a book...)

Oh well. I wouldn't hesitate to clone a human if I were in the right position, laws and regulations or not. I'm sorry, but I don't believe the Government is in a position to make such a decision.

If a scientific council of distinguished members said 'no', however, I'd respect the judgement.

(I'm still considering whether to continue my genetics major alongside a psychology major - biochem is a turnoff, as is the enormous legal and political aspect of the course. Heh.)

I find most of the anti T-cell or anti-cloning stuff is just coming from a bunch of bored white anglo middle-upper class people with too much sexual frustration and a face which looks like an old man's scrotum.

Personally I am more upset about French Canadians finding new ways to procreate more then the whole clone business.

Okay, the Raelians are um eccentric and unique um, yeah. See for yourself. http://home.earthlink.net/~guner/raelian/raelian.htm

Normally, the villification of such a group from the Religious Establishment would put me squarely on the side of the villified, but in this case it's like the schizos calling the bipolars "crazy". See http://www.gospelcom.net/apologeticsindex/r12.html and http://www.watchman.org/profile/raelianpro.htm

Realistically, any in-vitro fertilization clinic has the equipment and the technical know-how to produce human clones, and could have done so for the past 15 years.

Thanks to the ignorant jackasses in DC, members of the anti-scientific lunatic fringe gets to claim credit for an advancement that should have been long since done.

Now if they get a lunar colony underway well, we'll see.

I studied the raelians back in HS. They are pretty cool Certainly not any worse than any other 'religion' out there.

Actually I don't like any religion or cult but as far as religion goes the Raelians are actually nice people. I read there book, their sort of bible if you will and although I didn't believe in it some things were interesting.

Most of all unlike almost every other religion they do don't threaten your actions with burning in hell, they openly accept all gays into their group and instead of listing a list of "don'ts" they tell you what you should do to be kind to others.

Don't sound like a typical religion does it.

I am very sceptical about this. From my professional experience I think that the cloning of humans is very challenging. We shall see in the next weeks once a credible scientific lab is allowed to take independent samples to confirm or disprove the Raelian claim.

BTW, did you notice that the Raelians dont support Macs on their web site. Now, how can you take them serious!! :-)

I don't understand the point of cloning a human. If you are an infertile couple, please adopt an unwanted child and give it a good life. I think a mini-me (literally) running around the house would be creepy. Is there any real scientific gain to be found here, other than saying "Look what we can do?"

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

How about the ability the replace diseased organs with healthy ones without the worry of rejection and without awaiting the death of the healthy organ's previous owner? Is that practical enough?

How would you accomplish this? If you are not awaiting the death of the healthy organ's owner, are you implying that I simply kill my clone to take the new liver I need? Isn't that murder?

If there is another explaination I'd like to read it, e.g. cloning my healthy liver from an earlier sample without growing another me.

That's one of the research items, learning to grow specific parts without growing the entire individual.

Good background source: http://www.religioustolerance.org/clo_ther.htm

The first step to being able to grow replacement organs is being able to grow a replacement organism.

This is all in the name of progress.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - 95% of people who are against cloning and genetic engineering are ignorant. Learn more about it and you will change your mind.

In ten years and after a face lift from an incompetent plastic surgeon, maybe McElhone would look that awful; I doubt it though.

You have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything.

Joshua 24:15
And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
