From June to November, it is the season to question the aptitude of Floridians for keeping their roots in FL, under the great sun and near the white beaches.

I don't have a generator, but I do plan on stocking up on non perishables this week. I am fortunate to have relatives in nearby cities and I won't need sheltering.

What's your plan?

Good choice.

I wish the federal government would stop paying all those grants and funds to rebuild. Why the fark does the American tax payer have to pay for rebuilding Florida year after year ?

There wouldn't be such a problem with hurricanes if someone would stop doing what they are not supposed to...

Don't forget post-hurricane rebuilding Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Or post-tornado rebuilding up through the middle of the country. Or flood and mudslide damage up the west coast.

There's not a lot of "safe" places left... Canada anyone?

None of these are as predictable as FL. Plus, Floridians have more money than the people in those other places.

Same plans as usual. Hopefully not too bad that people get hurt and lots of damage is done, but just enough that I get a few paid days off from work. Of course, that will probably mean a week or more without electricity. No good. The storms are exciting to see, though, I must admit—nature at its rawest.

Ha! I'd say Florida is 50-60% poor rednecks. Most people never see them bc they vacation in the big cities, but anywhere in the center of the state (besides Orlando) is pretty bad.

Why not bash Louisiana? They're the ones who have shown that they're truly inept at handling hurricanes.

Hurricane Andrew makes landfall on Miami as a Cat. 5 and 65 people die.

Hurricane Katrina makes landfall on New Orleans as a Cat. 3 and 1,000+ die.

If half the state is routinely destroyed, that sounds like a good idea.

Do you have a tarpaulin to wrap your loved ones in when you find their bodies?

nah, the way I see it, there are so many still tarp covered roofs from Ivan/Katrina/Dennis that a few tarps are bound to fly off and land either in or nearby my yard. I figure I'm 'covered'.

See, that's just it. Stock up during the OFF season, when water isn't $11.50 a quart,, like it is the day before a hurricane. It's a trip to read the news stories about people coming unhinged in the walmart over the last gas can when they've lived there for 40 years.

After determining that FEMA would leave me to die in nearly any emergency, I began to lay in a reasonable set of provisions for a family of four for a week or two. I'm not keen on keeping a 55 gallon drum of gas in the garage, but we'll be fed.

Oh, and Ice, Fad, I've really no idea why you two don't leave that sand bar to the goombahs & alligators.

Que. Eff. Tee. It's damn scary in the small towns.
