So I thought it would be nice to take the girls to their first real concert. Hanna Montana tickets went on sale today at 10am, but I didn't know there was a fan club you had to join to get the code (Ticketmaster didn't tell you) so at 10:02 I'm on mileyworld signing up since joining the Iron Maiden fan club got me front row seats. I thought it would be worth a shot. After waiting for their slow web site, I go the code and at 10:18, all shows in NJ and NY were completely sold out.

Someone at work told me that he heard on the news that the "tween" market is apparently huge, and that Miley Sirus herself makes more than the Stones.

/faint

Who knew?

Yeah, my sister attempted to get some Hanna Montana tickets for the Tampa show for her little girls. They were sold out nearly instantly. She called me and asked me to try to order some for her since she thought she had done something wrong in the ordering process. Nope, sold out.

On the radio, Ryan Seacrest was interviewing Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, from the movies). He explained to Radcliffe that he recently interviewed Miley Sirus aka Hannah Montana, and played a clip in which she said that she'd heard Daniel Radcliffe had a crush on her. Radcliffe's reply, "Who? No, seriously, what was her name? Who is that?"

Ooooh... BURN!!!

It's a Disney show starring Billy Ray Cyrus's daughter, who sounds freakishly like she's smoked a pack a day for her entire 14-year life.

Yeah, she's got some voice issues - and she lisps like crazy.

And the show isn't funny. At all. I've enjoyed several Disney Channel shows, even being in college at the time - Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, and Phil of the Future were all great. Hanna Montana is just annoying. Her best friend is played by Haley Joel Osmet's sister, and she's even more annoying. Hannah Montana is probably the most hokey show the Disney Channel has done in awhile - and it's too obvious that it's just to provide the most marketing options possible for a show.

I think the key with Disney Channel shows is to not use a laugh track. The ones that don't instead use music and character reactions to show comedy, and it makes it a lot more enjoyable for anyone with an IQ over 0.5...the ones with laugh tracks make the comedy way too forced. At least with sitcoms on normal TV, the good shows have actual audience laughter.

I doubt she's making that much money, though. Her show's only in its second season, and she didn't start doing concerts until fairly recently.

Welcome to the party. Almost every show in Houston seems to be that way -- they sell out BEFORE tickets go on sale. Not really, but close.

I think the Hannah Montana game on the Nintendo DS is still one of the top 10 best-selling games of this year. It was at one point anyway.

And I don't mean it made the top 10 list for one month, I mean, it was is in the top sold 10 for the entire year. Across all platforms.

I had no idea who Hanna Montana was until I opened this thread.

For our further collective education:

From the Wikipedia entry.

Miley Stewart is an ordinary girl who lives a double-life as successful pop sensation Hannah Montana. She tries to keep it a secret so that she can live a normal life. She lives with her brother, Jackson (Jason Earles), and her father, Robbie Ray (Billy Ray Cyrus), who is also her manager and producer, and was a country singer at one time. Miley's mother died when she was young. Roxy (Frances Callier) is Hannah Montana's bodyguard who protects Miley, Jackson, and Robbie Ray, even when they don't want her to.

Miley is originally from Tennessee. It is unclear when exactly she moved to California, but it is known that she has been living in Malibu at least since she was in the 6th grade.
In the episode New Kid in School, Jake Ryan, (Cody Linley), moves to her school. At first she is jealous of him because of all of the special attention he gets, she finally realizes her feelings for him after Jake told her (as Hannah) that he can't stop thinking of Miley. In the episode People Who Use People, Miley starts going out with Jake, but then he has to fly to Romania for four months to shoot a movie (Huh??). He came back in the episode Achy Jakey Heart, Part 1 and Achy Jakey Heart, Part 2, where they became a couple, but broke up and remained close friends. The character Jake Ryan is a foil of Miley Stewart.
It has been shown that Miley's friends and most members of the Stewart family know that Miley is Hannah Montana. Below is the list of people mentioned in the series that know Miley's secret.

* Robby Stewart (Billy Ray Cyrus), father[1]
* "Mom" Stewart (Brooke Shields), deceased mother[1]
* Jackson Stewart (Jason Earles), brother[1]
* Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment), best friend[1]
* Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso), best friend[5]
* Roxy (Frances Callier), bodyguard[2]
* Jake Ryan (Cody Linley), ex-boyfriend/close friend[3]
* Luanne Stewart (Miley Cyrus), cousin[6]
* Aunt Dolly (Dolly Parton), Godmother.[7]
* Mamaw Ruthie (Vicki Lawrence), grandmother[8]
* Bobby Ray Stewart (Billy Ray Cyrus), uncle[6]
* Fermaine (Matt Winston), Hannah's possibly gay** costume designer[1]

My kids watch that show.

Miley Cyrus ain't that cute, she can't act and her "music" is typical pre-teen/early teen drivel. The show ain't funny, Billy Ray Cyrus makes a surprisingly BAD country boy considering he really IS a country boy from Kentucky and what else…oh yeah, I have yet to see ONE attractive woman on the show.

I really don't "get it". I think that might be a sign of aging…

I still feel bad for Billy Ray Cyrus. He was actually a pretty good country singer, but the combination of "Achy Breaky Heart" and Travis Tritt making up **** about him pretty much buried his career.

For what it's worth, my teenage sister agrees on pretty much every count. I kind of get the feeling this show is for the less discriminating 12-year-old (and that's saying something).

My sister was trying to get tickets so her 7 and 9 year old daughters could go to the concert. So she got four of us in our respective homes and studios get on ticketmaster.com and wait until 10:00 am when the tickets went on sale and we all tried to get 4 tickets. Trying various combinations of 4 tickets — best available, specific level etc... only one of us got to purchase. We tried for about 20 minutes.

I guess this is why the ad industry is hitting the tween market so hard.
