I use an airport base station for all my online connections so I don't need the Modem in my Cube.

I've notice the add-ons for Towers and iMacs that replace the built in modem with a "stealthy" serial ports. Is something like that available for my Cube?

Granted, I don't really need a serial port either but I need the Modem even less...so any ideas?

You can use your modem as an answering machine with software such as Bing MegaPhone or MessageCenter Pro.

I use my modem port to send faxes. I find this still more convenient than the hassle with sending by internet/email. The fax machines won't die out so fast ...

Yes. Megaphone is great. I do this right now w/my iMac!

My question is:

Is there any USB or non PCI-based modem that you can buy for the Mac that supports the speakerphone cababilities of Megaphone? Or (on that note) any way to connect one of those old Geoport modems to a USB-based Mac?

Just looking for a way to use a newer Mac (ie: Cube/iMac/PB/etc) as a speakerphone.

PS: I tried this with an older ADB-based Powerbook and a Global Village Gold/Platinum modem and it was no-go.
