so, ran the update.
how do i get rid of the flag in the login screen?
i don't want it there unless i CHOOSE to put it there...??
weird.
not crazy about the 'forgot password' button either..
not thrilled with apple lately..

Another flag question. Where is the language flag kept? I wanna change something...

System Preferences -> International -> Input Menu -> "Show input menu in menu bar"
edit: I think you guys are talking about two different things. I'm not sure what the flag in the login screen is.

the login flag (on startup, and logging back in) is new (i think); i mean, it showed up for the first time after saturday's' 10.5 update...

Is it an actual country flag, or something else? I just logged out to double check but I don't see anything like that at all at my login screen.

Apple on Saturday released a quick update to its next-generation operating system: the Login & Keychain Update 1.0 for Mac OS X 10.5, which was only released yesterday, is 10MB and brings fixes for upgrades from Mac OS X 10.1, Wifi users, and FileVault, Apple's optional security for users' documents. Apple's documentation says that the free update fixes logging in with an account originally created in Mac OS X 10.1 or earlier that has a password of 8 or more characters and also issues when connecting to some 802.11b/g wireless networks. The company also said it fixes issues when changing the password of a FileVault-protected account. Is this flag on the login window, in the background, next to your login name, or what? If it's next to your login name, then it's probably just an account picture.

If you have an additional keyboard enabled, e.g., German, in addition to the default (say, English), then you'll get a country flag on the login screen.

They are hardcoded. Next to impossible to change.

i in fact did not install any languages other than default, so...???
anyway, annoying.

flag comes up top center of login window; there is a dropdown, offering other input choices (hiragani, and katakana are there, but greyed out).
i played with inputmenu settings in the international prefpane, but no change.
anyone else seeing a flag after updating 10.5?
(on a ppc mac, btw)...

Assuming things are in the same place as in Tiger (a big assumption, I know) this is easy to fix, if not particularly intuitive.
Under Tiger, go into Accounts System Preference. Click the "Login Options" button under the column of accounts on the left. DESELECT "Show Input Menu at Login."
Bingo. No flag at login. I hope for your sake Leopard works the same way, but if you can't find it that way, there's always Spotlight!

logged back in, flag gone.

It's probably not exactly what you want but if you change your login window to 'name and password', the forgot password button isn't shown.
