can anyone tell me if a notebook with the same specifications will run slower than a desktop with the same specifications?

i heard from a few computer mags that this is true, but i wasn't sure.

anyone know more about this or have experience with this?

thanks.

If they have the same specifications they will perform the same. The challenge is that you might often times find that only some of the specifications are the same. The processor type/speed and amount of ram might be the same - but what about the bus? What about the hard drive speed? What about the ram speed?

At the end of the day - if the specs are the same the performance will be the same.

Definitely agree with every point there. If I had the money, I would get myself a dual G5 as well as my PB I was even comtemplating a dual G4.

As this PB is my first Mac, I can't speak from Mac experience, but when I was using PCs, I had a Duron 1Ghz desktop and P4 1.7Ghz notebook and I can tell you, in quite a number of tasks that I'll do, the desktop was quicker. In my case, it was primarily the disk drive - 7200rpm compared to typical 4200rpm notebook drives.

However, I opted for the PB over a Power Mac G4 because I just like the flexibility of not being chained to a room/desk when using my computer.
