It's more the complexity than the "frilliness".

The left-hand can either be two characters or a single one. It looks more like one, with the tree radical at left.

It's usually read "momo", and means "peach".

The one one the right can mean "life", or "student", so it could be the name of the kid ("Momo-Kun"). In fact, given that that looks like a name tag on an elementary student's bag, I'd say that's pretty likely.

It's been a long time for me, though.

Not the bag, it's a piece of tape she used to label her disposable cup.
