According to the Associated Press, the White House is now admitting it screwed up with the "Mission Accomplished" banner back in 2003. Now, maybe I'm just reading in something that isn't there, but it sounds more like Dana Perino is sassing their reporters. The relevant quote, which is actually buried at the end of the story:
"President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished' for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission," White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday. "And we have certainly paid a price for not being more specific on that banner. And I recognize that the media is going to play this up again tomorrow, as they do every single year."
…and sure enough, they did.

"Mission Accomplished" was used after things like the Doolittle Raid against Tokyo in April 1942. Wait a minute... you mean World War II didn't end in April of 1942!!!!??? LIARS!!!!!!!
But then again, people, and more specifically the press that caters to them, weren't quite as stuck on stupid as some insist on being now, and could pretty much figure out for themselves the difference between terms like "MISSION Accomplished" and "WAR over". Go figure.
