I wish people would resist the temptation to do this.

Concerns over OS X's "snappiness" are absolutely legitimate. Combine the slowest computer processors on the market with an operating system 2 years ahead and twice as demanding as the competition and you're bound to have issues of performance arise for some time. Frankly, up until the announcement of the G5 the heart of the Mac platform was pretty weak.

Moreover, as anyone who has used Panther hands-on can attest, it's taken Apple a good 3 years to get to a reasonable level of UI refinement with OS X to not feel significantly slower in responsiveness next to it's predecessor (OS 9) and it's competitor (Win XP).

Panther is indeed much, much more responsive on nearly every model of Mac you run it on. It truly is the real deal. The full replacement to OS 9 (in both features and performance) that many Mac users have been waiting for.

This "snappier" phenomenon is Star Wars Guy's fault. If he hadn't started that thread complaining about people saying "snappier" too much, it never would have become the annoying tradition that it is today.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I think you're the only person who took this thread seriously.

Obviously, this thread is completely useless. No drivel, please.
