What version of Safari is he using? Netflix recommends Safari 3 at the least. He can also try Firefox and see if it works better.

I don't have any problems using Netflix streaming with Safari. Try doing a Reset Safari.

When it quits, do you get a crash warning with an option to report to Apple? If so, post the crash log here and send the report to Apple too.

I was having this same problem – both Firefox and Safari were crashing when I went to watch any movie via Netflix Watch Instantly.

It turns out the the problem was my Silverlight plugin – it was crashing.

Here's the fix:
1) Go to Home : The Official Microsoft Silverlight Site. This will crash your browser. (You can skip this step, but it's kind of a nice verification that the Silverlight plugin is your problem.)
2) Delete /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin
3) Go to Home : The Official Microsoft Silverlight Site (it shouldn't crash this time) and re-install the plugin.
