Taken from Macworld...

"Karelia Software , developer of Watson, has announced a new Web site development tool called Sandvox. Slated for a release in the third calendar quarter of 2005, the new software is aimed at general users who want to post a Web page using intuitive tools, according to the developers.

Sandvox features page layouts built by professional designers, and lets users view their sites in real-time rather than having to navigate through preview panes. The software features rich text editing and drag-and-drop assembly. Optimized for Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger," Sandvox touts support for Core Image, Spotlight, Safar's Web Kit and Quartz Composer. The software can also generate RSS feeds automatically, supports custom page coding, and features an extensible plug-in architecture to support new designs and templates as they're ready.
"

Looks pretty cool if you ask me. I really like RapidWeaver; however, this may blow it out of the water.

Just one that creates decent clean, un-bloated code would be a fine addition

Could be cool, especially if it does a good job of WYSIWYGing CSS. Which unless they hand tooled the page after creating it in Sandvox, it probably does.

Because coding in Emacs sucks.
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

I like it a hell of a lot better than any WYSIWYG editor I've ever used.

It appears Sandvox is not a WYSIWYG HTML editor (thankfully), but rather a website builder that uses pre-made templates (hopefully web standards-compliant).

Looks like a decent app, but I didn't like any of the four templates they showed off. (And presumably, those are the nicest ones.)

Will have to try it out. Right now a product is going to have to be pretty good to unseat my choice of RapidWeaver to build these types of sites.

One statement that kind of Irked me was "For years, Macintosh users have been clamoring for an easy, elegant way to get their content -- photo albums, weblogs, just basic sites -- published on the Web. We created Sandvox because there were no other applications that 'got it,'" said Dan Wood, Sandvox co-creator (along with Terrence Talbot, a long-time Cocoa developer).

Considering RapidWeaver has been doing this for the past few years.

That's already available here Freeway 4 This is unlike anything else - true WYSIWYG, generates standards compliant code, and 100% Mac Only. Absolutely amazing!

Please note, version 4 is a complete re-write of the program and can not be compared to any previous version. Think of this as InDesign/Photoshop in one for the web!!!

That's exactly why a public beta was released! Karelia weren't planning a public beta until the iWeb rumours started.

A few people must be downloading it - their site seems to be down.

Yeah, I've had some problems with the download too. I got it after a couple of attempts. The whole Karelia site seems to be having problems.

Still, after playing with it for 1/2 hour I think I'll be sticking to RapidWeaver for the forseable future (at least until the keynote tomorrow).

Ok, been playing with Sandvox for about 20 minutes. It crashed everytime I try to save it. I'd call it more alpha than beta at this point. The page layout with on-the-spot changes is nice, no "Edit" then "Preview" as in RapidWeaver. That said, the templates Sandvox provided were not impressive. Still, I'll give it a try a few more times. Maybe the next updates will be better. For now, rough beta indeed (for me anyways).
