Don't know if it's 10.1.2 or Omniweb sp19, but Omniweb finally registers mouseclicks instantly!!

Oh and 10.1.2 does feel a bit snappier.

I don't give a rat's ass about any of the listed improvements. I only want to know if they've fixed that frickin' Login items/Endlessly bouncing icons bug. Is it fixed? Can I now have more than three applications set to launch at login?

Does any one know if there is a package that can be downloaded, as I only
have dial up internet access at home and 30Mb will take ages, I would
like to be able to download it and burn the update to a disk here at work.

No. Also Appletalk networking with NT machines is still not fixed. Booo!
On the bright side, Infrared seems to be working on applicable machines.

Software update actually downloads a package, then installs it. I discovered this when after downloading it told me "you need at least 300mb of free disk pace on the boot volume to install this software. Please choose save as from the update menu, and free disk space." Sure enough, there is a "save as" option in the menu, and the resulting file is a standard pkg, which I assume can be burnt to cd

I don't keep a close eye on every bug but I did notice that I can right-click in the list view and the contextual menu is complete, allowing me to "Move To Trash", so that seems to be fixed!!!! Sorry if it was fixed earlier but I didn't notice it.

Well, installing that has made my iBook not work. It restarted after installing, showed the X happy Mac, restarting a few seconds into the boot process, showed the 9 happy Mac, and proceeded to boot into 9, but switched to a flashing system folder. I booted off my iBook CD, but it says the disk can't be recognized. ARGH!

Why has this happened on every Mac laptop I've owned?

Couple of things.

1) Install went with no problems. Nothing disappeared. All of my login startups, such as Classic and Drop Drawers were turned off. Windowshade was not.

2) It added new extensions to Classic. I don't know what but it asked if this was OK during the first startup.

3) As reported contextual menus now work in list view.

The major problem I have is that launch times seem to have doubled or tripled.

Omniweb took 19-28 bounces.

IE 5.1 took 21 bounces.

Terminal took 30 bounces.

Top -u shows nothing unusual.

I have a
PBG3 firewire 500 mHz
256 Mb Ram
12 GB HD with four partitions
OSX with OS9.2
OS9
Data
Apps

Anyone else seeing this?

And flash media now works!

Both a compact flash card (with PC Card adapter) and a Memory Stick (with adapter) work great on this Pismo.

It's about time.... Flash media support was Loooooooong overdue.

Thanks to all the deveng's at Apple working hard!

6 bounces here, everything else is a quick as it was before.

i even have the impression that submenus for directories in the dock appear slightly faster. might be subjective, though.

No more than 4 bounces for native apps (sherlock, Quicktime, Textedit, etc.)

Everything seems to work. Let's see what happens with LimeWire and Classic churning the works...

So far, everything seems to work. I don't know if it's faster, but it certainly isn't any slower: Internet Exploder took 5 bounces (is this the new measurement standard - megabounce?), Word, Excel, and AppleWorks all launched almost instantaneously, one right after the other!

Just upgraded to 10.1.2. I now notice that when I try to "sudo" to do anything that requires root permissions I get:

Sorry, sudo must be setuid root.

sudo never had any issues before, and I used it regularly... [Note, I never enabled the actual root user, I always used sudo when I needed to do anything that needed root access.]

(I had also deleted an unused user using the Users system preference earlier today, but my the account I am trying to sudo from is my usual Admin level account I've had since I first got X when it was first released.)

Anybody else seeing this after upgrading? Or does anybody have any idea what might be happening here?

My normal day to day work isn't affected by not being able to sudo, but at least several times a week I end up doing it for one reason or another...

Thanks for any help or comments...

As was mentioned earlier the F-12 key will still open the CD tray, but now you have to push and hold the F-12 key for a second. On my pismo, simply pushing the F-12 key does not open the tray any longer .

I really like this change. It stop almost all of the inadvertent F-12 key pushes from opening the tray, but still allows for quick removal of a CD or DVD with the keyboard.

If you've had many PowerBooks, and this has happened on all of them, maybe you're treating a bit too rough. Although portable hard drives are constructed to take more beating than stationary disks, they are still the most vulnerable part of a computer. On sharp knock is enough to wreck a hd...

dang! Apple posts the update *after* I leave the university and its broadband connection. Modem downloads at 5k/sec for 30 MB sounds really nice.

Hopefully the QPS FireWire 24x burner sitting under the Christmas tree will work without problems. I've heard of others' stories, yet others also say their QPS 24x work fine.

That must mean you are on a laptop with no eject key. The F12 thing was a bug for desktop machines, it was only supposed to be for laptops.

For the guy who has slow launching apps, your prebinding probably failed. Look at your update log in /Library/Reciepts.

For the guy with broken sudo, chown sudo to root. I'd suggest learning some basic UNIX if you are using sudo at all, btw, if you don't understand that.

Can anyone tell if Window Buffer Compression is enabled. It doesn't appear to be on my machine. On an earlier Dev seed of 10.1.2 it was turned on.

Go to Quartz Debug (if you have dev tools installed) and show the window list. If you see there are 'C' next to the window size, then compression is enabled.

Thanks
