Sorry if this an old repeat but I've looked around the Net and not found a simple answer to this.

Specifically, I have my Eudora Settings file which finder reports as 56kB and the command line reports as 0kB. I needed to look inside and find a password I'd forgotten. I did find QuickConvert to move resource fork to data fork and back so I have my information but I would still like to know where this 56K resides on the disk and how the OS associates it with the 'Eudora Settings' file.

If someone can just point me to the right FAQ or similar that'd be great.

Thanks,

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

The resource fork of a given file can be accessed at /path/to/filename/..namedfork/rsrc, if you want information from or about it from the commandline.

E.g.:

% ls -l thisfile
-rw-r--r-- 1 user staff 0 Jun 12 22:36 thisfile
% ls -l thisfile/..namedfork/rsrc
-rw-r--r-- 1 thisfile staff 727 Jun 12 22:36 thisfile/..namedfork/rsrc

This information is defined in /usr/include/sys/paths.h:

#define _PATH_RSRCFORKSPEC "/..namedfork/rsrc"
