the imac & emac forum needs a name change to include the imac mini.

It's not called the imac mini, it's called the:

Well, the new Mac mini doesn't fit the iMac or eMac forum (it's not an all-in-one machine). It fits a bit better in the PowerMac forum.

However, I would personally suggest to create a seperate Mac mini forum.

While its true that its called the Mac Mini, it is considered by apple to be a part of the imac/emac family.

No, just because there is a link in the Mac mini page link to iMac and eMac, it doesn't mean it is part of iMac or eMac family. There is no monitor, so it cannot be part of iMac or eMac.

It's far more a member of the i/eMac family because of its intended purpose as a lightweight computer for the home ("lightweight" in more ways than one

). Apple's placement of all of them on the same page reinforces this.

Just because it has no monitor, do you really think it's in the same family as a G5 tower?

The iPod all have links to each other on their page and they are part of the same family, apple obviously considers them similar spec wise. Regardless of where we put them they will need a place to go and the powermac forum doesn't fit because people will not be asking if their mac mini is cut out for motion.

Fellows, have a look at the Apple discussion forums. Apple had create a Mac mini specific forum already, and there's plenty of threads (and replies) in it!

Well, looks like the iMac & eMac forum has been renamed! It's now called "iMac, eMac & Mac mini".

The problem, you ask? Well, eMac should have a comma after it.

Something just doesn't seem right.

Powerbook and iBook both have separate forums..but now the eMac, iMac and Mac Mini are all crammed into one forum?

Even the iPod has it's own forum now...and it's not even a Macintosh! as in "Mac" NN???

Well, conceptually, it's really:

-Professional desktops
-Professional laptops
-Non-pro desktops
-Non-pro laptops

-iPods and their accessories

-Mac peripherals

If any changes were to be made, it would really make sense to merge the two laptop forums, since there's practically no difference in the troubleshooting and usage of those product lines. We took a poll, and the PowerBook forum members were all for the merge, while the iBook forum regulars were decidedly opposed, so we left it as is.

Well, I suppose I could. Muahahahaha! But we decided long ago that that's not how we want to run this place, and we know from experience that this community reacts badly to ham-fistedness (*cough* NewsFactorNetwork guy *cough*).

What's the point of renaming the iMac and eMac forum to the iMac, eMac, and Mac Mini forum if you're just categorically locking ANY and ALL new Mac Mini threads even if the existing threads you want people to use have NOTHING to do with the existing topic?

I'm all for locking threads that are covered by an existing thread, but don't you think you're going a bit overboard on this one?

I'd say the Mac mini should get its own forum. There's too much noise as it is (drowning out the iMac and eMac topics).

That's because its new. Wait a while and things should settle down. You should see how the old Mac OS X forums used to explode with threads when Steve gave his keynotes.

I cannot belive the amount of locked mini threads. it's complete unreasonable.

Apple releases it's first new computer in who knows how long..which users have been clamoring for for years..and which generates a LOT of excitement in the user community.

And the mods are locking threads at an astounding rate.

What are you thinking?

If "you mods" feel they are too much..then make a sub-forum for mMini's until the furor dies down..but come on! Why can't you let the community rejoice a little bit...the thing isn't even RELEASED yet..so you haven't seen "nothin" yet for posts.

No offense...but mods...this IS a community site...and I know about maintaining control and order..but you guys might want to consider lightening up and letting people be happy once in a while. So what if there are a few dupe posts...

Life is random. Deal with it.

And I'd prefer not to be banned for simply stating my opinion if it's all the same to you.

My suggestion is have PowerMacs, iMacs (G5), Mac minis and eMacs (G4), iPods and imusic related stuff, PowerBooks and iBooks).
