I am wondering what your experience with apples migration assistant is because I will probably reinstall my os and am wondering the extent to which it copy's files. for example: will it copy all my widgets and their preferences. will it copy apple mail, etc. when you put the files back on your computer will they be in the right places?

I've used it a couple times with good sucess. It copies the whole user folder, so your mail, music, documents, etc should all be included. I did it before Tiger, so I don't know if Widgets are included, but it's possible I'm sure.

That sounds good. I'll check to see what got over before I reformat though.

You pay them 10K, and they tuck you inside a trailer with other clients. You hold your breath and bear the extreme heat until the truck gets to San Diego. It is not too elegant, but so effective.

I imagine it takes the User folder and moves it to the new HD.

It takes just about everything. I used it and the only thing I had to do was repair permissions and re-add my theme (Shapeshifter reverted to default Aqua).
