And in yet another look at things to come in Leopard - iTunes 7 brings us a subtle scrolling sound (like a click-wheel). I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but sure enough in iTunes 7 you get a very tiny sound when scrolling that you don't get in any other apps.
Hmmm.

… and it's apparently unaffected by the system-wide Play user interface sound effects setting.

It's extremely subtle. I can hear it through my monitor speakers, but not through my internal speakers.

I just turned the volume all the way up, and I can't hear anything through my headphones.

Are you talking about Cover Flow? That's the power supply "chirping". It also happens in the Finder , Mail and Preview slideshow. It's a known bug of the Dual-G5 power supply.

It could also be chirping from the graphics card leaking into my speakers too I guess. Why does it only happen in iTunes though?

It's not the graphics card leaking into the sound output since the chirping sound is there even with the speakers turned off. So I think it's more likely the power supply. It's definitely an issue of the hardware though.

No it's definitely in my speakers. If I turn the volume up on the mixer it gets louder.
Why would the power supply on a MacPro chirp when something is scrolling?

If you have to turn the volume up to max (which I just did) and still don't hear anything then there's nothing there to hear. When I connect my iPod to my car stereo auxiliary port the scrolling click sound is very apparent at any volume level but iTunes does not do that. That sound is most likely the graphics card making noise. My G5's X800 card makes high pitched sounds when graphics intensive apps.
