So, I need some advice on an ebay transaction. I scored a wii from amazon the other day, and put it up on ebay. These traditionally sell for around $350 shipped. My auction just ended for $540 shipped...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=110084540449

The winner has zero history, and I'm not really sure what to do now. He hasn't paypaled me the money yet either. Questions:

a) what do I do if he does infact send the money? If its a scam/hacked account, do I qualify for the up to $2,000 paypal protection? If he pays, would you send it?

b) what do I do if they guy never send me any money? Does ebay refund my listing fee?

Any other comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks!

F*** eBay.

I won't sell anything there that's worth more than $ 30. It's one big scam place. Not worth the headache.

yes, ebay will refund your money. frankly, i'd opt not to sell such expensive items to those w/o feedback.

btw, if he / she does send payment via paypal, i suggest you get it out of the account asap.

I can see the lure of buying a new generation console to sell it at a considerable markup on eBay. But gouging for shipping on top of that is pretty cruddy, I think.

It'd cost $10 to send that thing USPS to just about anywhere in the US. FedEx Ground would cost about the same.

I charged $10 shipping in the marketplace, but the shipping price was the going rate on ebay. I think it has to do with the fact that ebay doesnt take a cut of the shipping price, so people just build that into their bid thinking. The thing does weigh 9 pounds though, and would cost about $13 to ship priority mail to the east coast, more to the west coast.

i'm going to respectfully disagree. sellers can put items up for sale. if buyers don't agree w the terms they don't buy. it doesn't make the seller's approach incorrect.

'tis a business 101 lesson.

get the money of paypal first(have it in your hands) then send the item out. so if he trys to scam you
you will have the money already. if not you'll be negative in paypal and wont have Wii. there is so many scamer on ebay so its always good to get the money first and then send the item out. i got my paypal closed before cause of a scamer.

You can always do a "Last Chance Offer" to the second highest bidder if he doesn't pay.

First of all, he ain't going to pay, he's just doing this for some bullshit jolly. I never understand why people like to do this. If he did pay using someone elses paypal account, that person might not know it for a couple weeks. Paypal will end up taking the money back or take you to court. Chances are, you'll never hear from him ever.

you have to report a non paying bidder to ebay. and it takes like 7 day for the refund. just click on help and you can find out a lot of stuff. and you should also tell ebay that he bought all of those wii's and obviously he is not gonna pay for em.

Yeah. Report a non paying bidder. Then it'll be relisted, free. Also, go into prefrences and block buyers with low feedback, and type in bold that if you have a feedback of X or below, to email before bidding with full name, telephone number, etc or you'll reject their bids.

It's important that you follow through with the non paying bidder, because ebay will charge you their selling fee, and that ads up on . . . what was it, $500?

It just occured to me, I wonder if whomever the bidder was (chupiechima whatever), I wonder if he was also selling one using another ebay account, and he wanted to drive up the bidding price on his by eliminating the competition, which was you and 9 others.

I thought about that, it also seemed like he was testing how high people had set their autobid, so he could use that information to bid up his own auction against others, to maximize their autobids.

Um, you don't have to relist if the second person on your list seemed legit.

It's too late anyways though.

FWIW, if you intend on doing a lot of this kind of thing - selling high-ticket items on eBay for a profit - upgrading to a PayPal Premium account will offer more seller protection. It does mean that they take something like $0.30+3% from whatever is deposited, but it does mean you're better protected if you get scammed.

I upgraded my account awhile ago when I was trying to finish Notebooks4Free.com and was going to opt for the $1000 PayPal, and everyone who had chosen that was required to upgrade in order to get the money.

I've only been scammed twice as a seller on eBay, and I've sold a lot of crap. Someone won an auction for a completely dead Dell Latitude CPi-A at $160. I don't think she realized it was going to end up that high. I should have pursued her, but at that time I was pretty new to selling and let her off. It ended up reselling for $116. I also had a guy win a wired PCMCIA card for $10. He said he "didn't need it anymore". I left negative feedback, reported him, and he disappeared from eBay completely. Someone once sold me an illegal/pirated DVD. I pursued him forcefully, and I ended up getting him banned from eBay for selling illegal merchandise.

I hope this doesn't discourage you completely from eBay. It's a useful place to find and sell things, especially old or obscure stuff. Just make sure you have hard and fast rules about your auctions, and stick to them.

I do agree that $30 is a little high for shipping. Regardless of what the "going rate" is on other auctions trying to profit from false demand, charging nearly three times the actual shipping cost is a little. I generally add maybe $2 to my estimated shipping to cover eBay fees...
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

I did send the second chance offer to the second bidder, but by that point he had already bid on and won a different auction
