Can anyone recommend a good, mac-compatible (obviously) flatbed scanner? It would be used mainly for scanning printed documents, but also for scanning clippings from newspapers and magazines, so color scanning as well as good text scanning is necessary (OCR not needed). A document feeder would be nice, but not necessary. Price should be in the $100-$500 range, obviously cheaper is better, but if there's a compelling reason to go more expensive then I will. It needs to be able to scan letter, legal, and A4 sheets (bigger would be nice, but not necessary). Mostly it will be used with Acrobat Professional which controls scanners to scan directly to PDF.

The HP ScanJet 5590 looks pretty good. It has the document feeder and will scan A4 paper for under $300. It looks like it's mac compatible, but I'm not positive. However it's gotten some bad user reviews on Cnet. Does anyone have any experience with this one?

Other than that I've found the Epson Perfection 3490 which has everything the ScanJet 5590 has except the document feeder but is only $100. It's definitely mac compatible. It also has a PDF button, but I don't know if that works on a Mac or not.

Anyone have any input?

Thanks.

i am also looking for a scanner but in a sub $100 range. also, if possible, one that can fit a 9"x12" sheet of paper. most of the ones i see have a max width of 8.5" and i don't really want to have to scan it twice and chop it together.
