Aperture works, but generates static when the images are first load. Resizing the window fixes it. Annoying, but I'm sure it will be fixed.
I don't use iPhoto anymore, but as far as I can tell it works just fine.
iMovie HD works fine, and there really is no reason to use iMovie 08 is there?

Icon previews are saved as far as I can tell. No redrawing here.
I don't have Office. iWorks works fine for me.

World of Warcraft seems to be the same for me. I can't verify any increase or decrease in framerates.

There might be a slight increase in framerates of games, but without testing I can't verify it

Great stuff, thanks.
Still can't see the difference with the bottom of the dock, I have the little strip on 9A500n.

Everything is generally snappy™ throughout. Generating previews are pretty much instantaneous for images, and very quick for movies. Spotlight is a dream now, with smart folders being actually useful.
QuickLook and previews work with Pages, Keynote 2 and 3 presentations, HTML, Word documents, Numbers documents, Excel documents, javascript files (.js), audio files which have artwork, pdfs, etc.
PowerPoint presentations are a no go though.

Is the Spotlight window back or does it still open a Finder window that can't show emails and address book contacts?

Haha. I just uploaded the Finder window in question, because I was wondering that myself.
I think you will like this:
It opens a Finder window, but it can also show contacts and mail messages. Best of all, QuickLook also works with contacts and mail messages straight from the Finder
Also notice the options to search for Filename only and system files. Finally!

In fact, QuickLook also works with Address Book groups! It will bring up a list of all the contacts in the group. Fantastic

Woot that looks good. Isn't there an option to show the search results by category?

The widget in the top right corner of the Finder window looks messed up.
And see your project proposal.pdf doesn't have a icon preview.

It wouldn't have loaded yet apparently. A new search created a preview for it.
Yes, the candy-bar button gets messed up randomly. I believe this is a bug with the resolution independence of the buttons. Shouldn't be an issue at release I think.
There is no option to show by category - sorting by kind is what you get (and should be sufficient in most cases). That would have been cool as a view option though (for any Finder window).

Leopard is shaping up very, very nicely indeed.
Apart from the Dock shadows, which are completely irrelevant to real daily use IMO, just about *everything* marks a significant step up from Tiger.

Sadly not everything. The removal of the InputManager feature has left Mail and Safari severely crippled

So the plug-ins I threw out years ago because they keep breaking and requiring .plist-editing after every single software update are no longer as easily created?
I can understand that some people want Saft or such, but for many of us, that got annoying real fast.

SAFT annoying? WTF? How in any shape or form could Saft be annoying?
The .plist version check was completely optional, and developers put it in as a safety measure. Inquisitor didn't use it for example. Oh god I miss Inquisitor
Fortunately there does seem to be an alternative method of doing them as 1passwd guys seem to have figured out. Hopefully other developers will catch on.

Hmmm. Tricky question. Only one I have is the instant hijack Audio Hijack Pro. Hijacking sound work, but if I try to record anything it crashes. So, undecided leaning towards no.

Optional for WHOM?
Certainly not for the user!
I, for one, have stopped using extensions and plug-ins that use "unsupported" backdoors. The convenience of a stable system and trouble-free upgrades far outweighs whatever conveniences those things might have brought - for me.

SAFT's benefits far outweighs any inconvenience that comes with having to upgrade it every time Safari is updated:
Force links to open in a new tab instead of window.
Double-click empty bar space to create new tab (this drives me insane when using a non-saft enabled Safari)
Effective and easy ad-blocking.
…and much more
So yes, I consider Safari severely crippled without SAFT and Inquisitor. And neither have had any impact on the stability of my system.
I just wish that Apple could have stolen the other tab-features as well when they put dragable tabs in
And I haven't even started on Letterbox...*sigh*

Question, Erik...are the smart folders still 'query files' or are they actual folders now? Do a 'Get Info' on a smart folder to verify. Thanks.

Kind: Predefined Search
All Movies.cannedSearch
Does it matter? It wouldn't make sense to have them be actual folders would it?

It would because these things don't show up when you make other searches such as one that includes folders...
Heck, the Open/Save dialog in early versions of Tiger was incapable of opening Smart Folders because it treated them like files. The Open/Save dialog has been fixed to open them but that was when I realized Smart Folders were all just one big crazy hack.

For you.
For me, it's just another annoyance I have to remember to deal with.
I tend to Cmd-Click and hit Apple-T for what you use Saft for.
And a custom CSS for ad-blocking doesn't need to be updated all the time.

Having them be actual folders would be one big crazy hack that would be even harder to implement.

Why?
At the moment, Smart Folders aren't treated like real folders in searches nor in the Dock...rumor has it that they can't be used as stacks in the Dock in Leopard.
Maybe I'll change what I mean...having them as actual folders would be one big crazy hack but having them as files acting like folders would be MULTIPLE crazy hacks (a hack for the Open/Save dialogs and the Finder [the only currently working hacks], a hack for the Dock, a hack for any app that wants to use Smart Folders like real folders)...I'll let you judge which implementation is better.

Maybe the should have been called "Live Searches" or something like that to not raise false expectations.

I don't understand what's going on with the dock. I know that it has that curvy gloss line, but why are there two other lines underneath it?

It's the "edge" of the dock.
The whole dock metaphor is stupid, if you think about it. I mean, the dock is supposed to be swooping out towards your desktop, but your desktop is basically a wall, so the 3D makes no sense. Unless they include a picture which has the same 3D vanishing point of the dock, so that the dock makes sense, it looks kind of stupid if you think about it.

This is the picture I was referring to:
ImageShack - Hosting :: picture4sp9.png
Then I noticed it is different from other pictures where the dock has only 1 line (indicating the edge). Maybe that second line is a reflection from the window above?

I use cmd-T too, but clicking the empty space for a new tab is just a natural thing to do.
And why can't Safari save my sessions? Especially annoying if you have 7 tabs and it crashes. SAFT would restore that instantly. Grrr.
Seriously, almost every feature in SAFT should have been included in Safari proper.

I use a custom CSS too, but it's pretty pointless since:
1) Adding custom rules is a chore
2) It still loads the ads, it just hides them

Ah. Good stuff. Not automatic though or able to save sessions. But it's good to see Apple stealing the features users want in there.

Safari 3.0 (5522.11) the one that comes with 9A500n offers to restore all tabs automatically after a crash.

No wonder so many people hated OS X at first. Even OS 9 looks nicer than this. (It's Developer Preview 3, the first appearance of Aqua).
