since the powers above all haven't addressed who/what is causing the problem, and since a full hour it is chocking everything for me...

here is the offending remote site making the forums useless:

http://easypicturehost.com/icons/js/ad.js

it must time out before you can do ANYTHING in the forums. see a page. login in. read a thread. anything. i know it isn't that way for everyone, just certain locations. but since it happened to me this time, i did some digging.

brought to you by someone trying for the last 38 minutes to use the forum; and another 10 to post this

almost on the nose an hour for me the above URL was preventing access to all of the forums. it is running smoothly again. i never ran a traceroute though to see where, from my end of things, it was hung up. could have been them, could have been their next hop, etc. sorry, didn't gather that info.

FWIW, I've used AdBlockPlus to take care of that easypicturehost script ever since it appeared.

Using js ads naked on the page is a poor practice, wrap those things in iframes!

If you must run any 3rd party js on the page (ads, analytics, etc), you should absolutely be lazyloading it.

Lazy load these assets and you won't have these sorts of problems.

Edit: sorry, I'm just repeating what mduell said... He's right though

i have it for all my browsers/computers. it doesn't catch it. is it something you manually have to add to the plug-in? never had to tweak it before.

Are you using AdBlock in Firefox or Safari? ABP in Firefox lists the script when you view the Open Blockable Items window. All you have to do is tell ABP to block it.

In Safari, I think you have to manually ad it by clicking the ABP button, then select the Customize tab and enter the url for the script.

I think it's pretty funny that a Mod is encouraging users to learn how to deprive the board he moderates of its only source of income.
